Welcome to America! Where money is king.
Welcome to lemmy, where users will believe anything they read if it's anti USA.
I believe the antivax movement was able to take root because the US has cultivated an intense distrust of the medical system.
-
You pay high medical insurance premiums only to get denied when it’s time to cash in.
-
You avoid calling for an ambulance because the ride alone will bankrupt you.
-
You go to the ER only to get hundreds of dollars in fine for over the counter Tylenol.
The public was trained by the medical institutions to look for any excuse to reject them. The antivax movement was a way to express that distrust, even if unconsciously. Politicians simply lit that major oil spill and gave it a voice.
Likewise, we live in a capitalistic hellscape where no one can afford homes and cars to take them to jobs where they’re underpaid and can be let go in an instant, not due to performance, but because an executive wanted another tax break on the dragon money hoard they refuse to put back into the economy.
Like with the antivaxers, we have been conditioned to expect the worst and that impacts our gut reactions.
I have to admit it does seem like there is a lot of that here.
That's because you aren't in a bastion of US propaganda. You know like reddit or Facebook. They don't control the narrative here.
The US does horrible things everyday, like feeding Israel weapons of genocide with no limits. Why shouldn't we talk poorly on US everyday?
The US is also by far the largest financial donor to the Palestinians, at around $600 million per year.
Yes? Not sure what your point is? I'm sure all those dead Palestinians really appreciate not being alive to enjoy that donation.
Overall, we rate The South China Morning Post Left-Center biased based on editorial positions that moderately favor the left and Mixed for factual reporting due to poor sourcing.
How do they choose the names of these drugs? Do they just keep stringing together consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel until they hit some sort of limit?
Some of it may just be random. But there's some logic to parts of it. I. This case the suffix -mab indicates that this drug is a monoclonal antibody.
Yes, but they don't pick them randomly. Those are usually sillables from the chemical or biological description.
Classical Example: para-Acetylaminophenol... the common generic names are paracetamol or acetaminophen, the most common brand name in the US is Tylenol. All are derived from picking some parts of the descriptor.
This is the reason that my wife and I are living in a third would country.
I’m a us citizen and we could easily process her visa, but why would we go there. What does America have to offer?
It's not a popular view, but the US does have some pretty great salaries. I think FIRE people have the best chance of success in the US.
That said, the work experience here is pretty exploitative and not at all engineered to give a good life. If you want a family, and want that family to enjoy their life with a reasonable work life balance, the US is not a great place.
The US has good salaries, but the cost of living is too high. FIRE is what everyone should be doing, but one mistake or accident can really screw things up. The main difficulty for people trying to do FIRE is the cost of house and transportation.
I guess that depends on what op's job is. It could be a US job that can be done entirely online. But yeah, the only redeeming quality about working in the US is the high salaries in high demand jobs and tones of companies to choose from.
Familiarity and closeness to relatives. At least that's why I'd never try to talk my retired parents into moving to another country.
If those aren't concerns then I really don't see much reason to stay.
Does it actually work or are the chinese lying like always? Paying off the regulator to get their trash passed I bet.
