Neat, that should get it open in a week or two at most rather than months like it would have been for proper repairs.

They're predicting that it will take 3 years to get the repairs finished proper. The backfill plan is definitely longer and more expensive. But, like you said, they will have the highway functional for the vast majority of that 3 years.
