I remember loving this way back in the day. What an amazing labor of love. I hope the original devs can learn how loved their original creation remains.

The Original devs released "War for the Overworld" a few years ago. It's as close to DK as it could without copyright issues

That was the only truly abysmal early access experience I've had. I randomly heard about it, and picked it up in "bedrock beta". Nothing worked. At all. It should have been pre-alpha internal testing only at that point, but they were selling early access.

Never went back to give it another shot. Maybe it evolved into a decent game, but it left a very bad taste in my mouth to advertise early access on a not even working proof of concept level of work.

I backed it on kickstarter, and played it again recently. It's pretty good now!

I mean, it was way better than what you describe for a LONG time, but it's gone through so many updates now that it's far better than it was even on launch.

Lol. I remember reading about it and being quite scared as a kid. I'll have to face my childhood fears now, I guess.

The leather clad women who liked being tortured made me feel things

Just looking at those screenshots made me nostalgic. I forgot how good the graphics were for that time and the fantastic 1st person mode, really cool.

For me it would awesome if they could achieve porting it to Android, I am not playing that much on PC anymore. But thats my problem obviously.

This is great. It's so good to have this game maintained by the community. I played this game so much as a kid and have returned to it many times since. I think I'm due another go! 😈

I was thinking about Dungeon Keeper recently. I was really hoping since 2 Point revived Theme Hospital the may do the same for this other Bullfrog classic.

I have not heard of this FX thing. I may have to try it out. I always felt there was a lot more potential to this game that was never recognized. Maybe this will do a better job of it.

Has anyone done anything with Populous?

You've sent me down a nostalgia road with your mention of Populous. Here's what I found, and I'll be digging into tomorrow.

I am sorry and you're welcome 😆

Has some1 tested this under Wine/Proton yet? I love community remakes! ManicMiner (Lego Rock Raiders remake) and OpenTyrian being one of my favourites. So many childhood memories of the 90ies gaming era coming back with stuff like this.

Do you know some more hidden remake gems?

[–] ono@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

From the download page:

Currently only Windows is supported, but Linux and Mac users can use Wine .

Oh, that Info isn't on their github page. Thanks for clarifying :)

I might have to try this. I bought a copy of Dungeon Keeper from the bargain bin, and by that time my PC was so much faster that the AI just steamrolled me every time.

[–] Dukeofdummies@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Lol, gotta love the old AI
