[–] STRIKINGdebate2@lemmy.world 41 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You know. I got a massive amount of memes stored about that subject. I can't remember the exact number but it's between 1000 and 900.

Is it 911?

It really was the 9/11 of the Jenga industry.

a true sports car for the ages.

[–] gon@lemm.ee 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wonder if this is actually real. I could see it.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 22 points 1 year ago (3 children)

The steep drop between 2000 and 2001 makes me wonder. The attack was nearer to the end of 2001.

[–] fatzgebum@feddit.de 27 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think that is because many people buy Jenga as a christmas present, which are usually bought after september.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

That makes sense.

The sales dip is also less than 25 percent. If you assume constant sales through the year, the timing is also reasonable.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think you have your dates mixed up. These are sales from that calendar year. 2001 sales were down a good bit, so after the attack. 2002 sales was the big dip.

[–] VisualBuilder4@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 1 year ago

Maybe the winter holiday sale would normaly be substantial and therefore had a over proportional impact. 2002 was the more significant drop though.

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think this has more to do with the dot-com bust then 9/11.

There's always a relevant xkcd: Correlation: https://xkcd.com/552/

If anything, the rebound started at 9/11

Jet fuel can't melt wood blocks.

[–] flontlocs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Not much of a rebound if it's just rebounding to the standard downward trend.

[–] Metal_Zealot@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Should've started selling commemorative Jenga 2-Packs.
