Why can't we block/subscribe from the hamburger menu on the post? Is it this difficult on purpose? Can we edit out a few of those actions? Blocking communities is a huge part of my lemmy experience.

But you literally can? Or am I crazy?
If you tap the kebab menu (three vertical dots) on the post, you will see a link to community, and on the right you will see another kebab menu. Tapping on it will give you the option to sub, block, favorite, etc.

Huh. I'll be damned. I never knew that was there

I still felt like that was a bit long personally, I'd like to have a block button directly in the main menu after pushing on a post's kebab menu in my feed.

Lots of sports communities have popped up and they're taking up half of my feed, so I have to block them all.

Well you can always suggest the feature. But IMO, if you are blocking so many communities, isn't it just better to do the opposite, and subscribe to ones that you like instead?

[โ€“] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

That's a good point, but I also like discovering new communities, just not the sport ones. Blocking by topic would be nice to have, but I think that would have to be a Lemmy feature.

Is that a payed feature? The second kebab menu does nothing for me. It's there, but nothing happens.

Nope. I'm on the free version and that's what I use.

Every time I touch that kebab on the user or community it stutters, the menu jogs down a little and then goes back to normal but now the kebabs are gone.

You could make a bug report in a separate post then.

I feel like it was much easier on sync for Reddit. I find I'm blocking a lot more communities than subs, mainly because Lemmy is so slow moving that I have to sort by new to not see the same posts from 4 days ago if I try any other sort.

I set everything on top 12H to avoid that problem. My subscibtions on Hot and my local community on new. This way I get a pretty solid experience. And I don't really have the feeling I see old posts.

You literally can!

If you are in a thread, just click on the kebab (hehe, I like that) under the post? You don't have to go anywhere if you mis-tap into the thread. I guess I don't think of it as an ordeal - I either just ignore the community, or I block it with just a couple of taps.

Thanks for that! That's great! I'm dumb! I appreciate it!

Is there way to block communities/posts based on language?

[โ€“] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's a core Lemmy preference in your settings on the website for your instance. Trouble is, no one specifies their language when making a post, so everything is "unspecified", and if you block that, you will see almost nothing.

[โ€“] Delphia@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Ive been asking for that since day 1 of being here.
