All this makes me think that his parents gave him that scar. And then named him Scar.
Actually he was named Taka (meaning "waste" or "want" in Swahili) and took the name Scar later, because of his.. scar. Or Askari, the extended universe is contradictory on this.
Wait.. the lion king has an extended universe? :o
If nothing else there is like 10 years of cartoons across 2 series.
