  • ✅ First class XPT train tickets between Southern Cross <-> Sydney
  • ✅ South Pacific cruise booking
  • ✅ Mandatory travel insurance (free through credit card) + $10 upgrade for cruise features
  • ✅ Work annual leave submitted (taking 12 days of leave gives me 22 days of holiday woo)

I think I'm just about done! Holiday SORTED!

Once I've figured out Christmas presents, I can go into the holiday period stress-free 😎

I woke up this morning to the news Afghanistan beat England in the cricket. It's their second win ever in a World Cup the first being in 2015.

[–] jaybb3rw0cky@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Big scalp too given England having won the last WC, right? Good on them!

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago

England did win the last one against NZ. Afghanistan's win is HUGE for them.

Help

Cat has pillow

Edit: I'm being pushed out of the bed

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Oh dear, did you finish the night on the floor, or did you manage to negotiate some space?

Miss Meow spent some time sleeping on my shoulder while purring loudly in my ear. Which always sounds nice, but 3kg of cat in the wrong spot gets really heavy, and the purr directly into the ear is a bit like having someone starting a chainsaw outside, and is not condusive to sleep.

I thought I was so smart putting my drink in a travel mug so it wouldn’t get spilled.

Cat tmiMelbcat spewed on it, hit it bullseye along with the carpet. The concave cup lid acted as a little basin 🤢

It’s rinsed off and in the sink while I decide how best to deep clean it or whether I can face using it again after that.

The carpet has been blotted well and soaked in biological cleaner so hopefully that should be okay. I’ll scrub and reapply if I need to.

Edit: the spinnos look a bit less happy today. They’re still valiantly pushing up leaves but one looks very slightly chewed, others have tiny pale bumps and pin fine light trails on them, and a few look wilted with dark stems near the soil. I wonder if they’re damping off

Someone on instagram posted 'ten weeks till Christmas' and now I am filled with anxiety over how fast things are going D:

[–] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm not a Christmas person, but bring it on. 2023 can eat a dick and I am very ready to move on.

[–] whatisthislifeilead@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago

Amen! 2023 can get in the bin

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago

That gives me 10 weeks to perfect potatoes in the air fryer, as I offered to do this for Christmas. I believe this will be achievable, but will have to do many test runs to make sure they are perfect. It is a sacrafice I am willing to make.

The signal to mobilise is the Mariah Carey battle cry.

I had a dream last night that I owned a golden Labrador called "King" and he was such a good, gentle and kind boy.

I've never owned a dog. Our house and yard are not suitable for a dog... But I kinda wish King was real.

I reckon my cat does know how to put the kettle on, he just pretends not to.

We've had sunshine, rain and wind today. I'm waiting for the snow or hail. Not likely but you never know.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I've had multiple bouts of hail in Ringwood.

Mr Woof must have sensed I was thinking of moving the dog bed on the floor that he doesn't use as he is curled up in it tonight. I guess it stays where it is after all.

He does know how to do cute.

I thought it was raining here too, but turns out the kids upstairs were just eating corn.

[–] bull@aussie.zone 8 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Got my "Peony Bouquet" wax melts delivered today and with no shock to anyone, they're super florally. I'm not completely sure these really fit my whole vibe but I'm still going to melt them flowery motherfuckers nonetheless.

About to go on holidays, and the longest time away from work for quite some time and man, I gotta tell you, I'm feeling down af. I don't know why. Hoping that when I finally get away that it'll change my mood.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Be careful of what you wish for, your low mood might be because you know deep down inside that you'll enjoy your time away so much that when you come back you'll feel even worse...

Jk - I do hope you get the best of it all, refreshed and energised in a way that sustains you after you come back.

I was hoping for pakidge today, but sadly it's not looking likely. The air will have to remain unfried for a bit longer. The rest of the week should be pakidge full however, as I'm expecting seven deliveries 😁

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

The young Seagoons ( they are only in their 30s 😉) are coming to stay for a few weeks before they move to NZ for a few years so I have heaps of cleaning and organising and probably shopping. Happy they are staying, sad they are leaving, but we'll see them again and NZ is a great adventure for them, which is so cool. 😊

I actually slept spectacularly and woke up so comfy and not actually hurting (a rarity for me). Maaaaarvellous

Here's an unexpected myki issue.

When I was cruising down the bellarine the other day, jumped on the tram did my touching and it said the card was expired, the 3 dreaded beeps that the adults dressed like kids salivate over. Jumped off went to 7/11 grabbed a new card with $20 on no biggie.

I thought shit, that can't be right as I just topped it up and it has $40 on it.

About to head back to melbs today and check the old 'expired' card on the website and it expires in Nov. 2024 with $40 pending.

The responsibility is obviously on the commuter to have a valid ticket. And I'm aware if a machine fails that's on them but if the card hallucinates then where does that leave you if the big kids want their lunch monies?

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My son's just took a week for the balance to transfer from the expired card to the new one. We are not frequent public transport users and followed the whole process online for a replacement card etc.

[–] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago

I’m in the middle of doing this myself. Have received the new card, but having to wait 5 days for balance transfer is really annoying. What do people do if the inspectors get them? Lucky I have another card to use in the interim, but it’s not a great system

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago

leaves you trying to challenge the cunce in court. But as thornburywitch said, just take it to the big dogs and say "Your fuckin' problem now" and get them to transfer the balance to the new card.

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Each card only lasts for 3 years (I think). You can take an expired card to Myki booth at Spencer St/Flinders St and they will transfer the balance to a sparkly new card for no dollars extra. If you had auto-top up set, then you'll need to re-start that using the myki website.
Got caught this way myself a couple of times, cos I don't lose my card.

Despite having to do some work today I feel heaps better, I swear to God it's because there's some real sun... and I think taking the melatonin last night helped somehow.

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago

We shouldn't complain ... much. NSW weather today

[–] bull@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago

I am kinda loving the first page of my home screen at the moment so I thought I'd show it off. You can see the Google Calendar widget has seen the colour scheme of my wallpaper and made itself brown. Inside the Boost Lemmy app it has actually done the same thing which is awesome.

iPhone users, can your toys do widgets yet? I haven't been keeping up with iOS updates for ages.

Went to put the car out in the street as the lawn guy is supposed to help me get the old couches out for hard rubbish. So of course the wipers stuck.
Picture me in a black dressing gown UGGs and thermals and severe bedhead fiddling with the wipers and coaxing them to move, dammit.
I hope the commuters along the highway were entertained, at least.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago

Sorry about the rain on your morning commute folks, I watered my plants in with Charlie carp because there was a smidgeon of sun and I forgot to check the forecast

[–] bull@aussie.zone 5 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Do I want to pull the trigger on this? I have no other ideas for what to do with myself over this time period and I really don't want to end up sitting at home at my computer. I've never been on a P&O cruise but I have been on 2 cruises with the same itinerary, which is the South Pacific islands.
