What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Some quotes from two news sites and the families. Of course, things are still in motion, and our understanding of the facts may change with time.

Edit: I have found better sources for the claims of rape, though it only states sexual assault, the evidence is grim.

Two videos in particular have raised concerns of sexual assault against women, one of which shows a woman apparently bleeding into her shorts being taken out of a vehicle in Gaza; the woman is alive. The other video shows a woman stripped down to her underwear lying face down in a truck

Even with that small amount of evidence, we can assume that the thirty claimed captives, with the number estimated to be "dozens" by israel will suffer greatly. Sexual assault, and rape, are likely

Social media feeds were flooded with videos of multiple people killed and others being kidnapped as attendees attempted to flee. Relatives of those missing have said they felt abandoned by the government and that they have received little to no help.

“This morning my daughter, Shani Nicole Louk, a German citizen, was kidnapped with a group of tourists in southern Israel by Palestinian Hamas,” said Ricarda. “We were sent a video in which I could clearly see our daughter unconscious in the car with the Palestinians and them driving around the Gaza Strip. I ask you to send us any help or any news. Thank you very much.”

In a separate, unverified video that went viral Saturday, Hamas militants appeared to kidnap a young couple identified as Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or, per CNN. In the clip, Argamani is driven away on the back of a motorcycle as Or walks with his hands behind his back.

Many family members received text messages from loved ones who attended the event before they went missing. Hersh Golberg-Polin, a 23-year-old student, texted his mother and father “I love you, I’m sorry” on Saturday. Born in Berkeley, California, Hersh and his family moved to Jerusalem when he was seven years old. His father, Jonathan Polin, told the Jerusalem Post: “We just want him home and safe. We love you. Come home to us.”

At least 260 bodies have been found at the site of an Israeli music festival following Saturday's attack by Hamas, a rescue organization says

Ricarda Louk — the mother of Shani Louk, a 30-year-old German tattoo artist whose body was seen on video being paraded through the streets in the back of a pick-up truck — asked for help finding her daughter in a video published by German newspaper Bild.

“Nobody has told us anything. Nobody is helping us. It’s chaos,”

“We didn’t even have any place to hide because we were at [an] open space,” Tal Gibly, who survived the attack

Islamic Jihad — a militant Palestinian faction which has also carried out terror attacks in Israel — is holding at least 30 hostages in Gaza who were captured Saturday, according to the group's secretary general, Ziyad al-Nakhala.

There's raw footage of the rapes and executions on shock websites at the moment--disgusting.

That is horrific, I won't be seeking them out though and will wait for validation. Those sites tend to repost stuff from other situations any time something new happens, but I can entirely believe that to be real given the context and current information

What is the website?

I keep hearing about this but no one is linking these videos..

Same here I'm curious. People seem to be so iffy on whether any of this happened so if there's video I'd like to see it so I can know who to believe.

You can look it up yourself or visit 4chan.

It's crazy dude. I've been thinking about this a lot and I just can't find justification for it. I kind of understand where the Hexbear people are coming from sometimes but then they'll have insane takes like this. They always claim to be pro minority anti government whatever but how can you justify mass murder and rape of civilians? I understand the history between Palestine and Israel and I acknowledge Israel's government has committed dozens of atrocities but there's such a massive difference between a corrupt government/military and the people living under it. People cite the festival's proximity to an internment camp like the people attending the festival even necessarily knew about it, or as if they were at all responsible for choosing the location.

Even the first comment in the screenshot is trying to minimize it by just calling it a "shooting" when there's purportedly videos of Hamas kidnapping and raping people. It just seems so arbitrary which side they're in favor of, and once they've decided they blatantly ignore any actions of extremists and brush it off as "they had it coming" for things a government has been doing long since before they were even born.

I guess it's easier to cheer such an atrocity when you're separated by an ocean and don't even see them as people, just some kind of villainous people who all hate Palestine. I'm sure the tankies would change their tune really quick if a group from Palestine, Russia, or China rolled up in their neighborhood to commit atrocities in the name of war and reparations.

Then they have the audacity to look at a similar situation via Ukraine/Russia and somehow always come to the conclusion that Ukraine are the baddies even though they've been having their land stolen for years and Russia quite literally attacked them first. The parallels between Russia/Ukraine and Palestine/Israel are so similar that it's mindboggling the tankies support one and not the other.

I genuinely wish I could understand where they're coming from but their discussions are always filled with so much hate and attempted humor that they just end up parroting their little memes and quips when talking about actual wars and genocide.

Despite their love of theory, Tankies operate on an incredibly simple process: America bad. America hate X. X Good.

  • America Bad

  • America hate Hamas

  • Hamas Good

These atrocities are necessary to destroy the US, innocents be damned. You can try to explain to them that if their preferred combatant won, they themselves would be executed for being queer, but they will simply ignore you. Tankies, like all extremists, are lonely people who lack friends or social life, so instead of looking inward in an attempt to improve themselves, they blame the world, latching onto communities that encourage such bigotry, that tell them that 'They're not wrong or hateful, it's the world that's wrong and hateful'
