What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

These people live in a different reality. China consistently ranks as one of tge most corrupt developed countries in the world.

I think their argument is US' corruption is more advanced cause we can't see it. Cause we can hate on China all day but US has quite a lot of skeletons in their locker, shit just look at the native americans

I'd say they are both equally corrupt. Remember that the Chinese government assassinated and threw doctors off of buildings who risked their lives by leaking information about covid early.

when tankies don't understand the Iron Law of Institutions

God, I wish eliminating corruption was as easy as shooting all of the corrupt people. I really do. Or that painting over incentives for corruption with a coat of red paint made it no longer incentivize corruption. Tankies live in such a comforting worldview compared to reality.

They talk about Gulags as if Russia has no problem with corruption. Good stuff.

Yeah you just kill the corrupt people. Sorted... No more corruption.

I mean forget the politico textbooks, have any of these people even read Animal Farm?

When you imagine yourself in charge of the communist utopia, it's easy to justify gulag. Of course, you'd never send an innocent to the gulag.

Obviously, these guys will be first in front facing the squad.

They always forget that queers were among the first to be sent to the gulags for making the state look weak. Yet they continue to post a dictator's face in the same sentence as LGBTQ rights. So bizarre.

Human nature is greedy and all that jazz. It was just a lot harder to be a bad person when your community was your life. It's a lot easier though when you're talking modern nation states composed of way too many people for your monkey brain to comprehend.

It was just a lot harder to be a bad person when your community was your life.

Not even that - small communities make 1984 look like a manual. When everyone is always in everyone's business and privacy is a dirty word, it's difficult to get away with anything that the rest of the community might disagree with.
