Photos with toys, like this one, really made me believe Kiwi were tiny. They're so so much bigger than you think!

Oh god.
In New Zealand, you can see them in sanctuaries! They're huge and look they're wearing MC Hammer pants as they run around. So freaking cute. Just don't make the mistake I did. The birds are Kiwi, the fruit is called kiwifruit. If you say you want to eat a Kiwi from New Zealand, you'll get treated like you're a psycho, threat, and/or moron.
Alternatively "Kiwi" also refers to a New Zealander. Or at least it does if you're Australian.
It does in the states too! I have whanau (family) in both places.
So much danger from a misunderstanding. (I want to make Twitter joke here, but it's too late)
Fun fact:
The Kiwi bird is not named after the fruit. The fruit was actually renamed as "kiwi fruit" in 1959. The Kiwi bird is a symbol of New Zealand and represents the nation's national psyche. It is resolute, adaptable, and just a bit quirky, much like New Zealanders themselves.

I once had an image of a kiwi (bird) that was cut in the inner part look like the fruit

I know. But I'm trying to do my part in keeping this space alive!
