A group of caste equity leaders have been fasting for more than two weeks to convince Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign a bill that would make caste discrimination illegal in California.

So fucking sign it, Gavin! It’s cleared both houses of Congress. There are a lot of Indian hiring managers in California and caste is very real for Indians in the world today. It should totally be included in our existing anti discrimination laws.

Newsom is weighing the pros 7 cons. On the pro side, it'll reinforce his & the Dems image as being anti-racist, anti-discrimination, and pro-democracy. On the flip side, most of the US voters of Indian origin (no matter what generation of Indian immigrants they belong to) are from the oppressor castes and his action might cost him & the Dems their votes. I'm not even joking about how entrenched caste is in an Indian's upbringing, or how much oppressor castes hate losing their Brahmin-created caste superiority.

In case you are interested, I just posted a long comment on caste in this thread at https://kbin.social/m/world@lemmy.world/t/481152/Caste-matters-South-Asian-activists-hunger-strike-to-ban-caste#entry-comment-2551757

Makes sense. It’s usually the wealthy classes who even have the resources to immigrate to America. The truly downtrodden masses from other countries are stuck there.

The oppressor castes who emigrated to US & other developed countries have happily enjoyed & continue to enjoy affirmative action in these countries while vociferously protesting against affirmative action for oppressed castes in India.

The violence, name-calling, insults, and often boycott of oppressed caste people who have benefited in even the smallest way from affirmative action in India has to be seen to be believed.

The amount of hate oppressor castes have for oppressed castes is truly scary. It is completely misguided, because their rights are not being taken away by affirmative action. Yet their hate is vitriolic, violent, and vindictive. But because 99% of those in positions of power in bureaucracy, police, state admins, and the govt are from oppressor castes, we rarely see justice being done in cases of caste atrocities.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

It’s so sad that Newsom will even weigh the political cost of this. It’s such a no-brainer thing to do, especially in California. If he were a real leader he would come out strongly in favor of this and dare any Indians here to speak in favor of discrimination.

Lord, let me never oppose banning a form of discrimination because I feel oppressed by a ban on discriminating against someone.

It's crazy how badly the opposition is outing themselves. If you asked me a month ago what I know about Hindus I would say, "IDK, they're from south east Asia, I think. They're polytheist, I think." And if you asked me now I'd say, "Not much, although apparently some of them are super mega racists against some group of people called Dalits."

Like... I didn't even know what a Dalit was until people started screaming how they're not oppressed at all which is why providing legal protections to them is apparently an Avengers-level threat. Like... I don't fear rules against discriminating against people I don't discriminate against? I assume all Hindus aren't like this, but if I were Hindu and not a racist, I'd be super embarrassed to be associated with the people who are fighting this.

Caste superiority/ inferiority and means of oppression are taught to Indian children right from their birth. By their parents, their family, their community, their teachers, their classmates. In India, a child might not get its mothers milk but they'll grow up imbibing caste. Any Indian who says they've not experienced caste discrimination/ atrocities is from the oppressor caste, because while the privileged can be blind to their actions their victims who bear the brunt are not blind. Thanks to education and brave reformers they're not mute or deaf anymore.

Brahmins had a monopoly on education & white collar jobs in India before the British came and opened the doors of education to all castes. To this day, Brahmins and their oppressor caste goons inflict brutal violence against the oppressed castes, and then protest when their violence is called out.

Even now, in 2023, Dalits risk getting murdered if they wear sunglasses, grow a mustache, celebrate their wedding, study well in school, Their fingers get chopped off or they get beaten up by heavy wooden rods for drinking water from a tap that the oppressor caste deems is theirs. Oppressor caste school teachers beat oppressed caste students for drinking water from the water pot. Adivasis and Dalits get urinated upon by oppressor castes so they 'remember their place'. To this day.

Then there are the caste rapes & brutalities against Dalits & Muslims. You can look up info on Hathras rape & Kathua rape crimes. Those are not stray incidents, they are a part of the systemic brutality continously inflicted on oppressed castes by the oppressor castes for the past 2000+ years.

Brahmins created and imposed a purity culture on India where they are the purest and the oppressed castes are impure. It's an advanced & more developed ubermensch/ untermensch system than the Nazis had. The pure veg b.s in India is the result of this purity/impurity aka ubermensch/ untermensch system.

A recent example; Sudha Murthy a Brahmin, and the British PM Rishi Sunak's mother-in-law and wife of international tech. company Infosys founder, has very proudly and publicly stated that she carries her own spoon when travelling outside India lest she be handed cutlery that was used to eat non-vegetarian food and so become impure. This is an example of how Brahmins think & act. Till 2014 such thoughts were shared behind their closed doors when abroad. Now they're emboldened to spew their purity/impurity culture in public because India's violent Hindu supremacism is not just unchecked but also welcomed & feted by world leaders.

To Brahmins everyone but them is impure by bring born to non-Brahmins, and that includes you, And the Brahmins call being being born to Brahmin parents a 'merit'. They hate Christianity and Islam, because both religions don't have a caste system (the class system is not the caste system) and both offered a way to the oppressed castes to leave Hinduism and be treated as humans.

When the wife of an international tech. company's founder publicly & proudly shares her casteism & ubermensch/ untermensch culture and and no one from Infosys or any other Indian tech co. or any other Indian co. objects or calls her out, you can understand the kind of casteism that is prevelant in Indian tech co.s and Indian non-tech co.s .

This is the caste culture that Brahmins have brought & implemented into the developed world when they migrated. This is the caste system that the developed world is & should fight against.

"If Hindus migrate to other regions on earth, Indian caste would become a world problem”- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, victim of Hindu caste oppression, staunch opponent of casteism, and the architect of India's Constitution.

Geez. At the risk of sounding really ignorant, how bad is this in America? Specifically California, which the article is about? I'd imagine it must be pretyy bad if people have been fasting for so long over the issue. Is it mostly prevalent in areas with a lot of Indian immigrants?

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This is insane to me. This is the same as Nazi germany assigning Jews as second class citizens. Fuck any country that does this, and why didn't British colonisation eradicate this nonsense?

Holy shit I didn't know it was this bad. That's worse than Nazi Germany, except for the concentration camps and gas chambers part. I feel like I have to call my local MP and complain about this, because NZ admits a lot of Indians. I'm completely against discrimination but if we had a law that said 70% of Indian immigrants must be Dalit, I bet that would piss the supremacists off a whole lot.

[–] xuxebiko@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've just provided a small snapshot, because its traumatic to write it all down. But the reality is so much worse, hence this attempt. Caste atrocities and Brahmin purity culture are India's best kept secrets, because even the perps know it is inhumane and barbaric. Now they're emboldened to normalise their purity culture outside India because oppressor castes are in positions of power in other countries and in large multi-national corporations. If that gets accepted then they'll work to normalize caste & caste atrocities.

but if we had a law that said 70% of Indian immigrants must be Dalit, I bet that would piss the supremacists off a whole lot.

They'd be hopping mad. You'd be called racist & Hinduphobic and they'd use your country's democracy, media, and laws to defeat such a law.

You talked of Nazi Germany's gas chambers and concentration camps.

India is the oppressor castes made open-air concentration camp which the oppressed castes are born into & cannot escape. Thanks to our Constitution created by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (the first oppressed caste person who escaped, educated himself, and returned to free the rest of us. To say the oppressor castes hate him is an understatement.) and brave anti-caste leaders, the oppressed have a voice, are able to talk about these crimes against humanity, are able to garner support in their fight to be treated as humans,

What is the need for gas chambers when oppressor castes are barbaric enough to enjoy the public humiliation, torture, and murder of their fellow citizens? They know that the law will not apply to them because the police are also from the oppressor upper castes, if they get arrested after a hue-and-cry they'll be released on bail by judges who are also from oppressor upper castes. If all else fails, the media whch is 99% from oppressor castes & politicians in power who are also from oppressor castes will see they don't get punished.

It's estimated that about 95% of the videos of caste atrocities that come to light are recorded by the perpetrators who use them to boast and gain clout in their community, while their community uses these videos to further terrify oppressed castes.

Shit dude, this needs more public awareness. I'm going to do my part as best I can. Time for another rabbit hole to go down.
