Is there a non military grade missile?

[–] knorke3@lemm.ee 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it's just a launch vehicle if you remove the warhead

(fun fact: an easy way of disposing of nuclear ICBMs is to just remove the nuclear warhead, put something useful on it instead, and shoot it off into space)

That's not a good idea. It could easily hit a satellite. A few to many times and that satellite can't be used anymore

that's why launch schedules are a thing?

And do you think lance corporal Darren understands that?

What exactly do you think “something useful“ means in this context?

Very low paid airmen. Very low paid airmen who never get any special attention from on high. Then one day their CO is told "hey the brass wanna know how much is really in that warehouse"

Fuck. This is gonna take all day. Round up all the e5 and below and get it done.

Whereas before that, the standard method was to walk inside, copy last year's number to this year, and make work-noises for a few hours.

Is this America's way of saying 'We're not using the fear of a vague and unspecified 'escalation' to hold back on ATACAMS any more?'

[–] MxM111@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Source for that statement? My google skills failed me.

https://abc7.com/us-likely-to-send-long-range-atacms-missiles-to-ukraine-officials/13755229/

A surprising discovery could also ease the administration's choice to send the weapons: The U.S. has found it has more ATACMS in its inventory than originally assessed, the two officials told ABC News.

The serviceability of the rediscovered stockpile is not yet clear, nor which specific type of missiles it contains.
