for every person who leeches on mobile data and can't afford to seed, there's someone who has a freakishly powerful rig that seeds like 17 different torrents 24 hours a day. if you can't afford to seed, don't worry about it, because people who can afford to seed often do. things balance out in the end

I don't have a seed box but I constantly seed a few hundred torrents on my 1 Gbps connection. Many of them I've been seeding for over ten years. I couldn't care less about people like OP. Everyone should just do the best they can. If the best you can do is leech, that's okay with me.
Everyone should just do the best they can.
That's the key to most of everyday life. Just do your best.
Being a leecher when you don't have any alternatives is not something bad.
I leeched when I was on limited bandwidth now I am the sole peer for about a dozen hard to find torrents. Balance in all things.
Most people don't usually torrent on mobile data, and if they do it's understandable that they can't be expected to give back. It's fine, maybe in the future when you get broadband you can start seeding back.
Leachers are a fact of life. It's not praiseworthy, but it's not damning.
Don't worry about it. On the other side of the spectrum are people who use seed boxes which are literally seeding machines. I'm currently seeding 27 torrents 24/7. I occasionally go through and delete old ones with a good ratio (2+) and plenty of seeders. I was in a place similar to you once and I appreciated those who could seed. Now I'm trying to give back.
500 torrent seeder here. I was a leecher back then, but now I have the bandwidth capacity and the Internet speed to do much more than before. I don't mind the leechers, they are part of the ecosystem.
This might sound funny but I am serious. Thank you for your service. Like, not parallel to marines, but sure as hell you are a force for good :') In a few years, I will share the burden :)
weak, i have 5 torrents with a ratio over 1000, 334 TB seeded in total.
at this point i just do it because it's fun to have big numbers
From each as per their ability for each as per their need.
I used to be a leacher, even when I had a broadband connection. I never really knew why seeding was important. Now, I try to match the data I have uploaded, at least, if not more. Like, of I download a 50gb of something. I seed at least 50gb before I remove it.
perfectly balanced, like all things should be
Dude, from a much more privileged place, please, enjoy your movies and bring yourself all the happy moments you can get.
I wouldn't worry about it, not everyone can have good Internet. You're doing what you can and that's okay.
Some people like to rent a seedbox because of this, that way they can download and upload torrents very quickly, especially on private trackers.
I'm a leech because you can get fined in my country for seeding too much
is India one of those countries? Are there perfectly safe ways to seed?
Nothing is perfectly safe but the least risk would be not torrenting and paying for Usenet binaries (or sharing drives with friends?)
As far as torrenting goes, reducing your risk is probably best done with a VPN but I wouldn't know who's really trustworthy (surely it's in the megathread though?) - won't be free, though.
Lechers aren't all bad, you're still contributing while it's active. When you're situation changes, it sounds like you're behaviour will, so live and let live, cuz...
(I'm fairness, my wife is a leech and I'm not, but it depends on who gets to deluge first...)
Seed > Leech > Disconnected. Youβre still providing redundancy for the torrent, but it would be better to seed obviously.
More upload for me
Ganesha would seed, Shiva might leech.
The word is "leech".
and I am Indian. We mak up wards as we goo ;)
edit: I am making fun of my own kind. It's a joke, I am not justifying bad spelling and everything. You know American English and UK English differs sometimes in spelling and pronunciation, I was like, yeah, I can call something Indian English and pronounce Cat as Dog, if for nothing else just to piss people off. Again, we must have a language we all agree on to communicate with and this was just a freaking joke, and I resent for having to explain it.
I initially misread as "lecher" and was very confused.
Glad it wasn't just me!
lmao!

see the edit and I did correct it.
I don't think you're a bad person but you wouldn't be welcome amongst my torrent communities.
It's fine, if hit-and-run leeching was a huge problem then more trackers would enforce seed ratios. But most don't, because it's not. The fact that you mostly leech just means that you can't most private trackers. Oh well, just use the public trackers instead and seed what you can.
IDC if you seed or leech as long as everyone that wants the file gets it.
Pay $2 a month to Gigarapid and get their basic plan.
As long as you seed long enough for me to get the bits I need, Iβm cool οΏΌ
I tried seeding with my data. Typically I get around 1Mbps during the day. Also being behind CG-NAT doesn't help it (can't open ports). So far I only managed to get one torrent above 1.0 ratio, but it took quite a while.
So my guess is that even if you tried, you possibly wouldn't be that successful anyway. Also many popular torrents already have fast seedboxes competing, so your slow unconnectable network won't see much demand anyway.
My name is Ganesh
Good morning sir!
I just know Master Roshi is hilarious!
