What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

"It's just a joke, man!" Meanwhile, in Sartre:

Never believe that ~~anti-Semites~~ neotankies are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge.

But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The ~~anti-Semites~~ neotankies have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors.

They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert.

Unironically the exact same as the hexbear mentality. Curious 🤔

Ironically posted by a 13 year old white kid Hasan shit sucker who lives in the green area.

"What's your solution? Have everyone who wants to come over to the West and get citizenship?"

Unironically yes.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Would destroy their countries. Have you heard of brain drain?

Its just not a viable solution. Lets fix their countries instead of abandoning them.

Plus its not like they won't bring their issues with them.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Have you heard of brain drain?

Already happening, m80. Those who are struggling to get into Western countries are generally not the ones with advanced degrees. Most Western countries are pretty open towards offering residency to those with specialized skills and education.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's my point. Let's stop draining their brains, and let's start fixing their countries.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You said it "Would destroy their countries", not "Has destroyed their countries"

Really rather sounds like you would just prefer to reduce immigration.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Well yeah, but I'm trying to appeal to leftist ideals.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry, I'm an American, I don't go in for that kind of anti-immigration talk.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

I wish that this was still a valued part of our culture. Seems like more and more people are against what built this country, and want to restrict immigration.

Freedom of movement is an important leftist ideal. If I invite someone into my home, sell them property, or offer them a job, the state should have no say in that.

[–] odium@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's more of a liberal ideal than a leftist ideal imo.

[–] cacheson@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

It's universal among anarchists, to the point of being a litmus test. I had assumed it would be popular among other leftist factions as well, but I don't have any numbers or anything. Pretty sure it's more popular among left-liberals than moderate liberals as well, so that would point to it being more of a leftist ideal.

How to destroy a country in 3 seconds flat.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

"God these Irish and Italians are destroying the country."

Lol your ignorance is hilarious, it's not the 1920s anymore. The world is a large global market, and countries no longer exists in vacuums.

Nativist bullshit continues to be nativist bullshit.

The issue isn't migrants themselves, at least not as long as the number of migrants isn't overwhelming, the issue is that the economy in most countries has become too lopsided. Too many people feel that their livelyhood is already under threat and they will absolutely reject the notion of letting even more people come in and compete with them for resources.

Not that my heart didn't swell with a little American pride thinking of that, but the actual number is only around 150 million extra for the US.

[–] cacheson@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

650 million new friends! ^_^

[–] Gsus4@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago

Yep, but that would have taken them too much restraint to argue :/

[–] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

While the current system is nowhere near perfect, you can't just let everyone that wants to migrate actually do it. Whether you like it or not, there is a significant portion in every society that would vote for anyone that promises to close the border, as is evident by the rise of right-wing groups stirring up hatred against migrants all over western countries. You will achieve very little if you force the issue and incite a major backlash.

Poland and the baltic states are in Schengen. Bulgaria and Romania are about to join too. Turkey, Ukraine, Albania, North Macedonia and even Serbia might join in the future. The Serbia one will be hard, considering how many serbians are anti-West, but it is also a very crucial one because that would mean the entirety of the Danube river will be in EU.

The Danube river is navigable and it can take things from the Black Sea to Germany and anywhere in between. This should create a significant economic boost for all the countries involved, even neighbouring countries like Greece, since boats can dock in Greece and then drive a few kms to Bulgaria and Romania Danube river.

China, who is already owning the biggest port in Greece(and one of the biggest in Europe), is already preparing to invest on that second port that could link to Danube river. Then again with the new Cold War escalating, we might see the death of globalization. But still, having an alternative route for commerce is a pretty big deal.

[–] kozel@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's wrong with that? In first, the map is old, thus wrong.

[–] Gsus4@feddit.nl 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Did you read the comment? "Firing squad for you".

[–] kozel@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jes, I just wanted to make a little word-play to introduce the observation they have wrong map.

Unironically, though, yeah, dramatically increase immigration. Immigrants are less likely to commit crimes, less likely to not work, far less likely to draw on social services, and more likely to start businesses. Plus, they can help correct demographic declines in a sustainable manner.

[–] Turun@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You mean the existing migrants that are able to pay for a flight and all associated fees that come with moving to a new country?

Also citation needed, lol. At least for the crime part bpb.de says the case numbers for migrants are higher than average.

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Idk about Germany. But in the US, immigrants commit far less crime.
