I just received my supermicro x9dr3-f motherboard, which has two cpu 8pin connectors for power, while the power supply I was going to use only has 1. I'm only going to be using a single e5 2667 v2 with it, do I really need to buy a new psu?

The cpu has a 130W tdp.

According to the manual it is required to use both.

My guess with that TDP is yes. Iirc it's about 100W per connector.

I ran similar dual processors, each with a single x4 connector, while waiting for a conversion kit to turn one of my PCIe connectors into another set of plugs. It ran fine, but it's not officially recommended by my motherboard vendor, and I probably wouldn't have done it long-term. All that is to say that YMMV.
