oddest part is the guy who drives his kids just to walk himself... it would be a great habit to get the kids used to walking around now, leading to healthier habits and more independence over their lifetime

It's two miles, walking might be too much if they're little. Tandem trailers, bike seats, their own bikes are definitely options.
