Just following the rules, which I can appreciate.

Indeed. [rule]

I find it hilarious how they had to put a sign right next to the traffic light to tell people how it works LMAO

[–] florge@artemis.camp 28 points 1 year ago

The sign is used to indicate a stop line, not how traffic lights work. Often the sign might be a several metres in front of the traffic light to allow for the flow of oncoming traffic.

It's at temporary lights for roadworks, usually when a lane is closed. You need to know where to stop, which might be further back so incoming traffic can get past you

Must be German.

We Germans wait at red lights, always.

It's 3 o clock in the morning, no car passed by for an hour. A German will still wait at an red light.

I'm not German and it would never cross my mind to not stop at a red light, I'm pretty sure that's the norm in every country, no?

[–] Pisodeuorrior@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Yes.

If anything, traffic lights have often cameras, and they don't give a shit if it's night or not..

Crossing on red as a pedestrian is fairly common in the UK. The whole concept of jaywalking is not really a thing there and legally there’s nothing that keeps you from crossing a red light as a pedestrian. It’s merely a recommendation according to the Highway Code.

I’m German and it makes perfect sense to me. Mandatory traffic lights are ultimately car infrastructure and suck for pedestrians. Prohibiting to walk because there’s a light bulb somewhere is a very stupid concept. It works perfectly fine so why not elsewhere?

The only time you need to stop as a pedestrian in the UK is when instructed by police.

TBF I really wasn't thinking of pedestrians, though I should have because that's the point of the whole post.

Oh, fair! Operating a two tonne machine and not sticking to the rules meticulously is irresponsible at best and fatal at worst.

[–] Gingernate@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

Well Germans won't cross at a crosswalk with a red hand when it's 3 am and no cars for hours.

I'm German too, but in my region people care less about it (Rheinland-Pfalz). It's really different from city to city tho.

I am deeply jealous of this extreme display of obedience

[–] akariii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

I also want to be obeyed
