I have been running Bazzite on my TV for a few weeks. Was using PopOs however I was having issues with some games not launching, probably to do with the combination of Unraid VM, GPU passthrough, Xorg with fractional scaling on a 4k pannel. Bazzite with "Game mode" is amazing. Closest thing to Steam OS that I know about. Everything just worked with the exception of needing to firmware update my xbox controller to get it to work. Game mode seems to report as a steam deck.

(Read this in capslock) How did you get the Xbox controller firmware to work?

Seriously! I tried it for a whole afternoon, before I gave up and just bought a generic gamepad. This was the last time I bought a Microsoft hardware thing. Fuck u MS!

Sorry for the delay, two kids with gastro :$

I cheeted, I used my partners Win11 desktop, installed the XBox accessorys app, update completed in about 4 minutes. I have had success with windows based firmware update tools using wine in the past; with a lot of troubleahooting. Her PC is 2 meters from me and it was done in 4 mintes.... Yes I feel dirty, but it's a one-off firmware update. Pick your battles.

I believe the only way to firmware up an Xbox controller is on an Xbox or through the Xbox Accessories app on Windows. I've been using my work laptop to update my Xbox controllers.

As an alternative, some of the 8bitdo controllers are in LVFS, and I've heard the PlayStation Controller Firmware Updater works in WINE for DualShock and DualSense controllers.

Highjacking your comment to mention the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C, for anyone looking for a 8bitdo controller

Haven't personally tried it yet, but LTT made a video about it and price, quality and features seem all pretty good.

I also haven't used the 2c, but the older bt+usb2.4 ultimate still can't be configured in linux and the android app seems to not work at all.

I like the 8bdo controllers but being able to remap and set deadzones would be nice, and I'm waiting for steam controller 2 at this point. hopefully they do hall sticks.

Meanwhile all PS controllers (at least until 4), work OOTB on Linux, even with BT lol

The controller for the 5 works with all features too, they all work due to the official Sony controller kernel modul in the kernel.

Hmm looks like the next controller I buy is a ps5 one lol

Same. My PS4 controller works great, and I'm considering an upgrade. I've never had a PlayStation and honestly prefer the Xbox layout, but Linux support wins the day.

I'm on Bazzite, and AFAIK all drivers are already pre-installed.

I already tried using a VM with passthrough, but it didn't work. I'll try using my brothers' Windows PC next.

Xone is indeed pre-installed, Xbox controllers are just plug and play, or pair and play for Bluetooth. You need to open a help thread if you're having issues, but try updating the firmware of your controller in the meantime.

Where are people getting these graphs from?

Steam is putting out the end of year summaries. You should see it in Steam.

Thanks, I’ll check!

"Steam Replay" it's like Spotify Wrapped for Steam playtime/achievements.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

And before Spotify was last.fm. Sadly, I think last.fm put all this behind a paid only account within the last few years.
