I hope people realise that simulation theory doesn't actually imply that someone is actively micromanaging the simulation. The point of a simulation kind of is to just let it run and see what happens.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also when it gets boring, sometimes it can be fun to see what happens if you cause something unusual to happen.

Ok, dinosaurs were fun for a bit, but how do they fare against meteor strikes? Hmm, these small ones keep burning up in the atmosphere. Ok, I bet THIS one won't burn up! It will probably shake things up quite a bit in this regio--oh shit, debris from the impact is escaping orbit, that probably means it's going to rain hot rocks for quite some time all over the planet. Dammit, it was cool when all of the land was together in one mass but I've cracked that apart now and they are going to end up splitting up into smaller continents now. When's my last save state? Dammit, it's mid Triassic, the dinosaurs were so lame back then compared to these ones today. Guess I'll save now. I mean, they dominate the entire planet, surely they'll come out of this ok.

Weather update! It's raining rocks from outer space.

Praying to an inactive theoretical being is sort of the whole foundation of religion. If they (super being) ever verifiably acted, it would no longer be a religion, just fact. The unknown nature is what keeps people scared/hooked. This adds a depth to the comic that may not have even been intended (or the author is wicked smart).

There's a lot of different possible 'points.'

Sure but it could also be simsimulation and maybe they can play as us on a grand scale and if so they maybe can tweak the war, dissent, and natural disaster settings down a bit.. you know for the sake of recovering from the fun part.

Cuz idk if you ever played simcity and set loose disasters, recovering from them suuuuucked when it got out of hand.

You're still assuming it's intentional...

A leaky pipe that slowly forms a stain that looks like the Virgin Mary doesn't mean something made that simulation of an intentional representation of a religious figure show up.

And regardless of if anyone ever noticed the similarities or even sees it, it's still there.

The entire universe might just be leaky pipes and if something "bigger" out there looks at the resulting water stain, maybe out of everything they could observe, something would remind them of their existence and they might chuckle.

But it's very unlikely to be humans just statistically speaking.

This Theory is kinda discriminatory.

In this modern age there's gamer dad, gamer mom, gamer sis (not on only fans), gamer grandma & grandpa, gamer cat, gamer dog and gamer fish among many others.

Defaulting straight to the older brother severely limits you to an out-of-bounds exploit Speedrun. I mean, sure you'll get a high score, but life's more than just a placement on the wall of fame and the eternal nickname of "FartFace".

Speedrunner tip, If you jump from a place high enough, you unlock a secret ending and it's pretty fast.

(/s please don't do that, if you're in this situation don't be afraid to ask for help)

[–] lath@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I'm sorry, but that method isn't plausible. There's simply no way of achieving a high score through it anymore. Maybe as an ISS cannonball, but that's a little difficult to get started with.

Gamer uncle here. Depending on my mood I'm either a wise and thoughtful teacher helping the younger generation learn the ins and outs of games (some of which they shouldn't play, but I'm also firework uncle so I'm not always safe), or I'm "I will knock you off Rainbow Road as I lap you" uncle. I'm also older brother and treated my younger siblings exactly the same way 30 years ago.

When we all get together the kids are on their own because the adults are too busy playing four player couch games. Their gamer grandpa still plays battle for wesnoth with me periodically, but otherwise he plays a bass fishing game.

One family member each for every kind of difficulty in life.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Can they please look up a guide on how to make a stable government already?

[–] the_joeba@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Request too vague, loading wolfenstien.exe

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Nazi hunting?...

Run the code.

RUN IT.

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Yeah. I've beaten Castle Wolfenstein. The secret turned out to be shooting all of the Nazis. Also a lot of secret doors, one in particular leading to a particularly big gun.

I want a world for my kids where our solution is nuanced, and education and growth oriented.

But if my dream isn't possible, I'll settle for a world where as many Nazis as possible are just dead.

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Perfection can never be the enemy of progress! Cleaning out nazis will always be progress, if not "always" perfection.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Just press spacebar on every wall cube and you'll eventually find all of the hidden doors.

No luck catching them nazis then?

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There are plenty examples. Though mostly in the smaller countries. Makes one think, maybe a few million people is the limit for long-term stable governments? Cuz governments get too removed from the people in larger countries (same phenomena in EU) and, as a result, too greedy. But initiative and referendum rights could potentially fix that.

Now the question, how to implement that.

My Minecraft base and Stardew farm are better than my sister's but she could probably rock me in CoD.

Edit: Should add I'm the older brother

[–] teft@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think I got a button masher playing as me.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Mine is definitely playing on the Mad Catz controller in the third port.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I play myself.
