The Wii-U walked so the Switch could run. Playing Windwaker HD on the Wii-U was one of my favorite experiences.

I also loved my Wii U. It's such a shame it wasn't more popular. I basically used it like a switch with a box that needed to be plugged in, just took the console places and anywhere with an outlet I could plug in and play on the screen. Obviously the switch is the superior console but the Wii U was a banger.

I think the main problem with the wii-u was literally just the name

I know a number of people who thought the Wii U was an attachment for the Wii and not a separate console so you might be right about the name.

A guy I used to work with was convinced the whole thing was a scam. "Did his own research" and determined that all he needed was the console to upgrade his Wii. So he bought one secondhand. For his kids. Didn't quite work out the way he had hoped. Eventually broke down and bought the pad etc.

He was not the brightest bulb, just the type to think of himself as such.

More like the Wii U walked so the switch could take off on a fucking rocket sled if we compare the sales figures

But didn't the WiiU requitlre a base console still and just streamed that image to the handheld?

Versus the switch that is that base console and handheld.

The Wii u was better (when the game developer used it correctly), it was a separate screen that showed different content. It was more like a DS.

Some of the games in Nintendo land were excellent local multiplayer games that will never get replicated again. They made great use of the second screen concepts.

I loved playing hyrule warriors (the first one) on it, because you could play local co-op but not split screen, without needing another unit. It was an absolutely superior experience to split screen.

I wish there was something similar with a higher quality screen, but I think that ship has probably sailed.

I know, I had one, but it also had a base station that was the actual processing unit connected to the TV, so the handheld was essentially a remote monitor. Aka this meme doesn't work because it's missing half the wiiU unit.

It beats the others: "here's a new box, it's better we promise"

“But before you can start playing games, you need to download this 8GB firmware patch on your capped internet.”

It's slightly better, but we removed the disc drive and also please give us $700

Not joking, I'm secretely hoping their new console is the same format as Switch, but lets us use a 2nd unit or an old Switch as a screened controller. Ever since Resident Evil on Dreamcast I've been thinking every console could use a 'HUD in the controller'

I'm kina hoping the ps6 controller will have a touchscreen where the touchpad is.

[–] quixotic120@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

at least then $80 for a controller would be somewhat justified. except they’ll probably make them $199 at that point
