I love goals where the goalkeeper just stands there without moving.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm used to seeing them against us in the women's team, it's refreshing to give the goalie no chance instead of having our goalie not have one

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

Nwaneri is such a baller

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I think I have a virus and feel like shite. I'm just gunna watch the game. I may drop in at half time or something

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You'll feel much better when you see Nwaneri's 67' screamer from outside the box.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Briefly. The sudden movement in celebration was uncomfortable though xD

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Get better soon! I'm also not feeling too great, but that's prolly cuz I took the flu (and COVID booster) vaccine yesterday lmao.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I got both barrels today as well, I always try and justify it as getting it over with, but it just as often knocks me on my ass for a day or so.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The main reason I'm annoyed is that I had a midterm that was rescheduled to today and tbf it was easy but I probably should have rescheduled my shots till after that, lol.

That's a fucking nice volley.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's amazing how slowly he kicks it. The body position makes it look like he's driving it, but it's really just a slow, careful volley.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

what a goal from Nwaneri, holyyyy

COBRA KAI STRIKES AGAIN

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't want to recognize a single name on the teamsheet today.

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Your wish is not Arteta's command

Arsenal: Setford, Timber, Saliba, Kiwior, Zinchenko, Jorginho, Merino, Nwaneri, Sterling, Martinelli, Jesus.

Subs: Raya, Nichols, Lewis-Skelly, Heaven, Partey, Rice, Trossard, Saka, Havertz.
[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Goddamnit I can read all of this. Can't say I disagree with it, though. Outside of our first 11 we are extremely low on match sharpness (and I think that's why a lot of people consistently think we need more players when we really don't).

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It seems to me that this is exactly the kind of match where you play players who lack match sharpness. Zinchenko, Kiwior, Jorginho and Sterling I can see because they're first team players but they're lacking in sharpness. I can even see playing Gabriel Jesus because he needs to find his form (and luckily he just scored). But Martinelli, Merino, Saliba and Timber really shouldn't be playing. I hope they're all removed at halftime.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Exactly! Zinchenko, Jesus, Kiwior, Jorginho, Sterling are all fit, but lack sharpness because they haven't been getting any game time. I think that honestly everyone except for Gabriel, Saliba, and Rice, need rest and they haven't been able to get it because of cards, fixtures, and international play. I'm glad that all of them are playing, but I wish we had Tomi to swap Timber out at some point. That ACL needs to heal right.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And when Gabriel Martinelli went down I was groaning. Imagine losing him for an extended time because Arteta went with a strong team in the league cup. I really rank the league cup just barely above the community shield.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Thing is, and I mean no disrespect to anyone, Sterling, Jesus, Zinchenko, and Kiwior do not currently make up part of a good squad. They're just not sharp enough. Jesus and Zinchenko are coming back from being injured with insufficient minutes, which makes it difficult. Sterling is still adjusting to not being handed free kicks and penalties like candy. Kiwior I'm not sure if I can defend anymore, he's made several extremely costly mistakes in three appearances so far. Trossard needs rest and Martinelli has been on the ascendancy recently, so it makes sense to gamble on him if you're going to gamble on anyone.

Eaaasy yellow. Maybe even a red on a different day.

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well done Jesus. You needed that

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Man City are 2-0 down against Spurs.

Spursy moment incoming? 🤔

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

If not, it means the dominant club is knocked out of this competition.

Setford looks pretty calm and collected, honestly.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

It would be nice to have another Arsenal academy GK make it. There sure have been a lot of GK prospects lately:

  • Karl Hein
  • Brian Okonkwo
  • Ovie Ejeheri
  • Hubert Graczyk
  • João Virgínia
  • Jack Porter
  • Alexei Rojas
[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Nwaneri said "nobody makes me miss twice"

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

This goalkeeper must be getting tired of standing on his line and just watching balls fly into the upper left corner.

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 2 points 2 weeks ago

What a goal by Nwaneri

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Still will never understand why they let Jorginho go for so cheap.

Did anyone catch the words for that Nwaneri chant?

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Bro, you were in the middle of a fouling spree and the ref let two fouls go already. Why would you jump in there? And how do you have the audacity to argue that you don't deserve a card?

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Sterling deserved one there, damn, good defending.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

How's Sterling not found a goal today is so annoying, he's been great.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

RAHEEM YOU ARE OFFICIALLY CURSED

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Then again, if he'd just leathered it the defender probably doesn't get that block

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Why not play MLS in there?

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Again I ask you, why the fuck isn't Nwaneri filling in for Ødegaard?

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Arteta is overly worried about the effect on their psyches if they play poorly. I understood it at first, but at this point there's no way the fans would be angry about any injection of creativity, even if it comes with mistakes.

[–] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I believe this is the reason as well.

It would be nice to see a bit more of him. But, sooner or later he will be knocking on the door of regular started if his performances remain this consistent.

It's also entirely possible Arteta planned to bring him on for more minutes in another game, but circumstances forced him to make changes, like the Bournemouth game.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, to Arteta's credit, it seems like he's planned on bringing him on but has decided against it due to game state. I notice that Mikel has mentioned needing to quickly pivot his plans at least four times this season, and I think I heard him say it twice last season in total. Our season has been very bumpy so far. The problem is, I don't see a universe where City start to fall away in the spring just because they're on top. Liverpool I can easily see starting to flag as time goes on, though they'll still be up there. There's an argument to be made that we are extremely unlikely to win the league, and that's fucking ridiculous.

Kai Havertz and Thomas Partey coming on... sigh

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

We're letting them pass into the box a lot already this second half...
