Why would a vape have a screen, that's insane waste

I have rechargeable vapes. I have never seen one with a screen and I am already annoyed by the the lights that they all have. I stopped using the one that vibrated because why the fuck would I want that? I just need a cheap nicotine delivery system and putting a screen on it is peak pointless tech imo.

From around 2016-2020 the most popular devices were just a series of incrementally adding more pointless shit, which is why it's like that. They're not that popular anymore.

Fair enough, to each their own. The screen is because these can work with so many different coils that you need it for setup. Also, a lot use replaceable 18650 which makes the device last even longer. I've been using mine for over 5 years.

I'm duly impressed that it lasts that long and at that rate the screen may be justified.

You think that's insane? Each one of these disposable vapes also has a rechargeable battery.

[โ€“] eatthecake@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Yes, but the battery has a purpose, the screen is wholly unnecessary.

[โ€“] Slippery_Snake874@sopuli.xyz 6 points 12 hours ago

True but to me it seems absolutely ridiculous to have a rechargeable battery in something that's meant to be thrown away after a week or so.

[โ€“] blackris@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 19 hours ago

For disposables? Absolutely. There is no purpose for a screen. On a proper vape you need one to set it up for all the different coils that you can build or buy.

Make a larger screen. Large format displays these days are just grids of square led panels that are individually addressable, do that but with the small screens to make a normal monitor sized large format display.

Or a cube. Cubes are always good.

Is this how it started? The Borg were actually a bunch of e-waste DIYers?

Cookie counter display

No, most disposable vapes don't have a display. But they are becoming more common and intricate
