~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

I'm sorry but I have to use this opportunity to rant about how much I hate hate hate that fuck Steve Harvey because my daughter's therapist's office keeps their waiting room TV on a 24-hour Family Feud channel so I have to go sit in my car while she's in there because I can't take it.

Not only have I never understood why anyone finds him the least bit funny, he's a misogynist who hates atheists. Fuck him.

Also, that show is clearly enhanced with a laugh track.

Edit: My daughter's therapist

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago (3 children)

That show has basically turned into: force an innuendo and Harvey makes that stupid face.

I can't stand it or him

He's also just not a smart person.

"Where's your moral barometer?" has been a joke in various atheist discussion forums for years because of that interview.

Edit: Oh hey, he's now jumped onto the "anti-woke" bandwagon!

Steve Harvey: Name a body part used during sex?

Contestant: Penis

Steve Harvey: flails around and melts

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Have you seen his books?

Awful sexist crap where he blames his ex wife putting out too soon for him cheating on her. Then the whole point of the book is that women need to use sex to control the relationship or men will never respect them.

His books make my blood boil.

Also he calls sex “the cookie”, like an 11 year old.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

I've read about them. I don't have the stomach to read them myself. He's just an awful person in so many ways.

I forgot to mention that he's also, unsurprisingly, a queerphobe and a racist who makes jokes about Asians.

Maybe the therapist is trying to drum up business with subtle torture techniques.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'm so glad you clarified that your daughter waits in the car while you watch Steve Harvey instead of going to therapy.

:)

Maybe your daughter wouldn't need therapy if you love Steve like the rest of us. Join us, FlyingSquid. One of us. One of us.

Navarch Li Nalas, obviously.

Defeated Gul Zarale in desperate single combat, and led his cell and the entire resistance to victory and freedom.

Also the most humble bajoran you will ever meet.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Zarale was in his undies. But the people needed a hero and Li became one for real anyway when he saved the Emissary's life.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Zarale was in his undies.

Transparent spoon head propaganda, the Great Empire trying to make excuses for being beaten by barely armed farmers.

No one can stand against the will of the prophets, and the cardassians will feel their cleansing fire soon enough.

I brought peace, prosperity and justice to Bajor

No one deserves to die in a fiery death and the fact that I still think that she also doesn't proves it.

Maybe it's like the early Christian sects who venerated Judas because he was necessary so that Jesus could be executed and resurrected.

[–] dharmacurious 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd like to learn more about this, please

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The main argument is laid out in the Gospel of Judas, one of the apocryphal Gnostic gospels.

Thank you!

Also, just checked and I don't see that on sacred-texts doesn't have it o.o that's a first for me!

That fire just tickled Adami a little as it transported her to the spiritual plane. Her screams were screams of joy.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's been a little while since I saw anyone remind you that you are awesome and everyone here likes you.

So, uh, that thing I said.

[–] Underwaterbob@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Gul Dukat is so well written. It really seems like he's going to be redeemed seasons 3 and 4, and then WHAM-POW he's a fascist who sells his own people out to the Dominion, and a racist who actually thinks Cardassians are superior beings. The show makes you like him, and then completely pulls the rug out from under you.

[–] Lemmchen@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

redeemed seasons 3 and 4

I hated that part. It was so unbelievable that a man like him suddenly becomes a saint. Also, at some point suddenly nobody seemed to think of Cardassians as evil anymore, while previously they were portrayed as raping mass murderer fascists.

But props to Marc Alaimo, he really played Dukat extremely well.

[–] Underwaterbob@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

It was so unbelievable that a man like him suddenly becomes a saint.

I think it was pretty hard to determine exactly what his role in the occupation was until s6e11, "Waltz" when he outs himself while pulling a Misery on Sisco. Though I guess his selling out the Cardassians to the Dominion one season earlier was a pretty glaring clue. It seemed to me that he could have been a victim of circumstance rather than a vindictive monster until that point.

Though in hindsight, I get it being very hard to swallow that he might be redeemable.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Then they completely break him in the later seasons, make him very vulnerable and human with grief, and he still comes back as an asshole.

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

I have enough people like that in my life.
