"If it comes down to Trump, I'm going to have to hold my nose and vote for him."

And that's the reason our country is floundering.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 50 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He's still willing to cast a vote for the guy who tried to override a legitimate election; there's not a more serious crime against the rule of law or democracy, but this chucklefuck would give him another shot.

I'd say it's unbelievable, but unfortunately it's what I've come to expect from the fascist party.

[–] AttackPanda@programming.dev 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just terrible people. Has to hold his nose and vote Trump otherwise other people won’t suffer.

[–] flipht@kbin.social 22 points 1 year ago

This. He's trying to phrase it like he has no agency or choice in the matter to abdicate responsibility for the pain and suffering that is the point of voting for Trump.

These people do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. We tried that shit when we didn't haul all their great grandpa's to jail for initiating and fighting for states' rights to enforce chattel slavery.

Don't ask them questions like they'll wake up and realize they're idiots. They're not idiots. They're evil, they revel in causing pain, and they're also too cowardly to own that. Instead they'll use weasel words to act like they have no choice, and that it's just a cultural difference between regressive pieces of shit who want everyone else to suffer vs normal people who just want basic governance and personal freedoms.

That's it right there. They know Trump did a lot of wrong and got caught, but they think the left does a lot worse and is getting away with it. There's nothing further that can be done besides hold these people legally accountable. If that effort fails, we may as well have lost the country as we know it.

"I'll have to hold my nose and vote for a literal criminal". What a privilege that must be.

[–] EnderWi99in@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not a privilege. They have been brainwashed. There's no free thought at all for many people, and this mindset drives a feedback loop that keeps them stuck there
I feel genuinely bad for them to have had that taken away from them.

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 30 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Don't take away people's agency. They've been as capable of seeing all the same antics I have since at least 2016. They're not brainwashed; nobody imprisoned them in a closet and kept them separated from the rest of the world. Nobody took anything away from them. They chose to believe conservative media and MAGA lunacy because they preferred it. If they continue to believe it now, it's probably because they're either too proud to admit they've been so wrong for so long, or they're inside the sunk cost fallacy.

In any event, that's on them personally.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wouldn't discount the effect that an abusive relationship can have on someone's perception of reality. That's basically how conservative media functions. Their "reality" has become so warped that they think the only one that can be trusted is their abuser and everyone else is out to get them. They are very much brainwashed to not trust anything they hear which is not from a conservative source. They have been conditioned to think everyone is out to get them.

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Abusive relationship," sure, that applies where a victim has some dependency on a perpetrator, where that dependency constitutes a kind of "bondage" of the victim by the perpetrator.

Where is the dependency? What is conservative media providing to these people that they cannot do without, and cannot acquire elsewhere?

The only thing I can think of is acceptance of them as they are, where "as they are" pretty much means "unjustifiably prejudiced in a variety of ways." If they can in any way be described as "being in an abusive relationship," it is predicated on their being shitty people already. If they want "acceptance of them as they are," it is wholly available outside of conservative media, and conservatism altogether - all they need to do is stop being bigots.

If you've got other ideas about what constitutes the dependency, I would love to hear them.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Like many abusive relationships, the dependency is emotional rather than material. They think only conservative media is telling them the truth and everyone else is lying. It's of course the opposite of reality, but they have been tricked into only believing their abuser. I absolutely agree that some are shitty people looking for an excuse, but not all can be written off in this way and it's a mistake to do so.

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

I cited an emotional dependency above: "acceptance." Your statement that "They think only conservative media is telling them the truth and everyone else is lying" is the outcome of the abusive relationship (if it can be said one exists). It is not the thing which people were initially dependent on separate from being inside an abusive relationship.

I'm entirely open to other notions of why such people could be relieved of responsibility for their own behaviors and thoughts. I haven't heard anything that would make me believe they should.

[–] CMLVI@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not to mention this wouldn't be nearly as hard of an about face if they didn't make it a primary characteristic of their persona. It's why they get pissy when we say "prosecute Biden if he did anything wrong". We don't have the same level of blind fealty to the guy we voted for. He was just the best option we had. Meanwhile, if they can't/don't get to vote for Trump, then it is clearly a condemnation of the voting system that has worked for decades because they can't "lose" to liberals, they're weak and gay.

It's astounding the lengths people go to for that fuckin cheeto...

[–] EnderWi99in@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Read that all back but pretend you are talking about your average cultist. It's not as simple as people make it seem here. This is literally a brainwashed cult. I do not actually believe people can see reason even if they wanted to at this point.

There is just nothing there. Where a brain was supposed to be, it's just corn.

[–] YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 41 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Without reading my guess is blah blah Hunter Biden, blah blah, Hillary's emails, blah blah witch hunt. Let's see if I'm right ....

[–] Veraxus@kbin.social 22 points 1 year ago

You're not wrong. If you do watch the video, the Republicans being talked to are putting The Narcissists Prayer on full display.

[–] Efwis@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nothing to read, it’s a video

[–] instamat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

But I read sounds with my ears

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 36 points 1 year ago

Fuck the republican traitor filth.

[–] Seraph@kbin.social 29 points 1 year ago

"Maybe he'll hurt the right people this time around if I vote for him again"

Disgusting excuses for human beings.

[–] bitsplease@lemmy.ml 20 points 1 year ago

I'm allergic to videos, can someone post some of the responses?
