Just keep him inside! He's like "bro why'd you kick me out??" You domesticated him and then left him

[–] Shiggles@sh.itjust.works 102 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Obviously working off the same information as you, but it sounds more like he stopped him from leaving during the winter, and didn’t stop him after. Kitty made his choices and regrets them now.

Been there. Eventually we had to stop letting him leave though because he brought fleas in. Twice.

Actually it might've been three times

The cheap flee collars do not work, and if the cat was even semi-feral good luck getting any collar on it. Tropical is usually best, but stuff that works is also not cheap.

[–] milkisklim@lemm.ee 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I often find going to the tropics solves most of my problems!

In all seriousness, I totally agree that topical is the way to go.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Lol I'm leaving it, it's to damn funny

[–] TheOneAndOnly@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Why would you want to damn funny? Seems like a path to a joyless existence, friend. Be the change you want to see...

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Flee collars just make them run away.

What does work are anti flea drops you put on their neck, where they can’t reach. Lasts a month or so and kills fleas and ticks. My mum’s cats are outside a lot and they never have fleas or ticks, when my mum doesn’t forget putting the frontline drops on.

Yeah that's what they referred to as "tropical," a misspelling of "topical." But as they say, it isn't cheap for the good stuff. Frontline doesn't even work in my area, gotta be advantage II or revolution.

You don't let a cat outside when it wants to go outside, their instincts tell them they need to survey everything they can see, my cat is EAGER to run out the door and then he gets outside and is terrified and wants to go hide. Not every cat is terrified but once you have an indoor cat, it's an INDOOR cat.

Tamed, rather than domesticated

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 62 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

We have 2 of these. A nice, semi-open veranda that they can sleep on that's not cold.

One actually has a home but apparently is terrified of it because he always comes back.

Feel guilty of stealing a cat.

[–] actionjbone@sh.itjust.works 39 points 3 weeks ago

You didn't steal a cat.

A cat decided to move.

[–] accideath@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Cats love having affairs. My mum’s cats most certainly get some food and attention from a neighbour sometimes.

But talking to the owners definitely can’t hurt.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

I met my “timeshare” cat cuz the grump was stealing carrots and got stuck in the greenhouse. Fond memories there. Still don’t know what he did with them. I like to think he brought them to some other thoroughly confused human as tribute.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

Cats don't have owners, they have human servants.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

We have, they know, we bring him back, he just loves it here for some reason. Think he's in love with one of ours.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Maybe you can just establish communication with his other family so they know he's visiting you and not hit by a car. Sometimes a noisy bunch of kids can cause a cat to run away, even though they love him.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Did, they're not thrilled but he's just not willing to go back, they know he's OK and we took him back a few times.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Glad he found the right people to take him in.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

We don't know why he hates it there so much and loves it here, he was happily staying in the barn over the cold winter, we let him in sometimes, he even let's our daughter play with him and she's a terror.

Can't imagine what happened at his house to make him hate it so much.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

He tried, they said "meow!"

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

give him the wet food!!

[–] veniasilente@lemm.ee 6 points 3 weeks ago

So the cat distribution system also works when the cat then goes off... interesing!

[–] blibla -5 points 3 weeks ago
