so. i just wanna start by saying this will be a very long post. ty to anyone who reads it all and if anyone important (to the steam decks production) or higher up in steam reads this then also thank you. i doubt they will or will care enough to but ik sometimes ppl higher up do read their reddits so maybe. now story time.

around 2 years ago in around early to mid 2022 i got very ill (chrons disease). i had been hospitalised and the like with chrons many times since my diagnosis over 10 years ago now. however my surgery was iffy and stuff happened and i wasnt doing well. i ended up in intensive care. i had been eyeing up a steam deck for a litlle while as a thing for emulation and as new tech it just seemed cool. my mum agreed to me getting it as a early birthday present and using my bday money id get later for it (ordering it then back in march/april or so even though my bday was june).

at the time i felt it was a bit expensive (but much cheaper than windows equivalent machines). decided its fine and i deserve a treat regardless. i ended up being in hospital for a year, having multiple surgeries and almost dying on several occassions. throughout the entire admission of stay my steam deck kept me a little sane by being able to play games offline and then sometimes using a vpn to get around hospital wifi restrictions to play steam games in hospital with my friends online.

the steam deck had become something to help me through hospital boredom and kept me sane during a very bad time in my life. now i end up in hospital every so often (probably a week or 2 every 2 months) still (including as i write this lol) and i use the steam deck every time i am and have been in hospital since i bought it. at home i have a full gaming rig (though its not the MOST powerful its a good mid spec pc) which is also why i initially hesitated buying a steam deck wondering how much i'd actually use the thing and if it would be worth (100000% was btw if anyone was jw)

so if anyone reads this who helped make, develop, actively works on or anything of the sort with the steam deck even people like cryo or the deckmate guy who helped with other stuff and qol things. thank you from the bottom of my heart. this machine has kept me mentally sane and has been a godsend with all my health stuff and hospital stuff being how it is. even now my health is uncertain but i remain hopeful and sane. i think without the steam deck i would have been mentally much worse off (not great normally either but this thing makes it a lot better) and i also woild have not enjoyed my fav hobby or been able to pass time if it wasnt for this thing. so again ty everyone and anyone who made and makes any of the syeam decks stuff possible.

i know im just one person and i know that pretty much noone will probably read this post but i just wanted to say ty to anyone and everyone kncluding the general community aswell. also if anybody read all that thank you aswell. i basically just wanted to write a love letter for this machine. i love this thing
