I remember doing this with a group of friends at one point. It was late at night, and we wanted to make as much noise as possible; so we were absolutely pounding on people's doors before running and hiding in their bushes or around the corner. Wherever we could be out of sight, but still see their reaction as they opened the door and raged into the darkness.

One of my friends decided to kick one door, and managed to break the latch literally kicking the front door in... (must have been pretty weak/damaged already, we couldn't have been more than 13yo at the time) We didn't manage to hide in time and got chased for like 6 blocks before the guy was too tired to chase us anymore and we lost him.

(I'll note this was not in America; firearms were not a concern in the slightest)

I've just had a DHL package today.
I have a camera doorbell- very prominent on the door, and the button lights up as someone approaches.

They just knocked on the door... I was lucky to have heard it this time, but come on...

What they say: why doesn't anyone want to work these days?

What I see: it's cold, and raining, and wondering do they offer "health insurance" with a high deductible that is next to having none? (yeah I'm in the USA, how could you tell?:-P)

As an American, the USPS isn’t an easy job but it’s got amazing benefits. Part of how it got fucked over is by forcing them to secure their pensions in advance.

Yeah, it was basically shot in the leg, multiple times, then they complain about how bad it is, and use that as justification to kill it off entirely, or better yet keep it around while taking a large fraction of its funding away and giving it to corporations.

As was done also for weather forecasting, and so many other things - we really have the worst of all forms of government, socializing losses coupled with privatized gains, and most of us see it but bc of how the Electoral College works, we're fucked to do anything about it (not that Dems would do anything even if they got elected, ofc).

We are being eaten alive, and there seems no way to reverse course on that.

I guess all people can be assholes so no doubt there are bad royal mail postmen. However my experience is royal mail have been the exception. They knock and wait.

Amazon however, especially since COVID, dump and run. This hasn't been the norm in the UK but now they do it all the time.

It won't be long before we get porch pirates like in the US.

I don't mind them leaving it and running off when I'm in to collect it immediately, but I'd like them to at least ring the doorbell or knock on the door so I know to go grab it.
