Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they were called to Hardwick's Texas home Tuesday for a welfare check and discovered his body. We're told Hardwick was pronounced dead at the scene ... and no foul play is suspected. We don't yet know the cause of death.

Man this is terrible, the reboot won’t be the same with dale.

For real. I imagine they'll be finding someone new, but no one will ever truly be able replace him.

Hank! Hank! They've stolen my voice!!

My voice! The stole it and replaced it with some sort of yuppie moron!

The government, Hank! The CIA is using it for top secret artificial intelligence programs!

Later in the episode, Hank is using an automated booth of some sort for the main plot line and Dale is with him. The booth has a voice that sounds just like Dale's old voice...

Since it's a fast forward in the future they could give Dale throat cancer and one of those little hold it up to your throat things to talk.

Lots of good ideas here, but the thing is, Dale wasn't just a great voice, he was a masterfully delivered great voice. It will be easy to get a good sounding voice for Dale, but nigh impossible to imitate what Hardwick did with the delivery.

Could still happen if they were reverent to Dale. Some interesting story possibilities like Joseph finding out who his real father is

Well, Brittany Murphy is also dead and I don't really think King of the Hill is the same without Luanne either.

Pouring out some pocket sand. RIP

Man this hits hard. His YouTube channel was straight up unhinged and I loved it. He lived in a highrise downtown and was going a bit crazy for a good minute. Sad to hear this 😞

Completely irrelevant, but that other commentor was the very first spam bot I've ever seen on Lemmy, felt like that was worth commenting on. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing--- good that Lemmy has enough traction to warrant someone somewhere to code a spam bot, bad for obvious reasons.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Dude just put his recovery phrase for proton into his bot's comment string.

[–] Artemis@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I'm not even sure of the point of a bot like that...why put in the effort just to get downvoted?

I already strongly felt that they shouldn't reboot King of the Hill for a lot of reasons, but I especially can't imagine them going through with it now.

They wisely chose to take the axe to the Boondocks revival after Grandpa died. Doing the show without John Witherspoon would be like continuing The Simpsons after Harry Shearer or Dan Castellaneta died (and of course, Disney probably WOULD do that, but it wouldn't be a smart idea).

Man, if the King of the Hill reboot is still in the works, it just won't be the same without the so many great voices that we've lost over the years.

[–] MajorTom@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It was confirmed back in January. They very well may have already begun recording lines.

Even with the SAGAFTRA strike shutting down so much?

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@kbin.social 16 points 1 year ago

[sad human noises]

[–] AllonzeeLV@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Yeah. That's right. "dead."

Like a fox!

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

FUCK. Dude was really funny as a person too. This really puts a wrench in bringing back my favorite show ever with all the voice actors... (Obviously no Luanne)

[–] AnonTwo@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's just what the government wants you to think....

(Rest in peace, you will be missed)

flips shades up, squints

Man, this is heartbreaking! Dale was my favorite character. R.I.P Rusty Shackleford

[–] Roundcat@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

I'm not saying the government is somehow involved here...but

[–] theodewere@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

well if this ain't PROOF, i don't know what is..

RIP Dale

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Love that photo with him and Petty. Fucking sucks man. The show won't be the same without him.

[–] chemicalprophet@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Justin Roiland is available...

Too soon?
