I am a simple man: I see Babylon Five, I upvote. :-)

[–] Volkditty@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Why are they called the Babylon 5 when there are six of them in the picture?

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It's the fifth Babylon station. The first three were destroyed by sabotage and the fourth disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 17 points 2 months ago

The first fell to sabatage. So, they built a second one. That fell to sabatage. Same with the third. So, they built a fourth one. That burned down, fell into an atmosphere, then fell to sabatage, but the fifth one... stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get, lad: the strongest space station in these sectors.

That’s just their manager

it might be time for Babylon 5 rewatch.

My scifi fix hasn't been satisfied by recent Hollywood attempts, need to go back to basics.

[–] TotallyNotSpezUpload@startrek.website 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Have you already watched the animated movie Babylon 5: The Road Home? I liked it a lot.

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 6 points 2 months ago (3 children)

i have not! i didn't even know it existed, thanks! its on my list now

[–] TotallyNotSpezUpload@startrek.website 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You're welcome. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

If you do like the Cyberpunk subgenre of scifi, I can also highly recommend the movie Upgrade. It's an Australian production and the ending hit me like a freight train.

(Don't read the plot section!)

Thanks for the upgrade recommendation, haha, watching it now.

[–] TotallyNotSpezUpload@startrek.website 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Sweet. Please let me know how you liked it. It's one of my favourite movies.

Made a film post about your excellent recommendation: https://hackertalks.com/post/4230075

Wow that ending.

Real Colossus: The Forbin Project vibes! I love the gentle AI apocalypse, but i love out the AI is trying to protect itself from competition first!

Small nit, STEM was in the neck, so being able to see, or hear, or control what the brain can see and hear... wrong place for the routing.

Oh, nice post! And thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it. :)

I do love the literal cloud in the tech recluses mansion!

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 3 points 2 months ago

shucks. looks like netfix.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 5 points 2 months ago

...it's a love letter to fans of the original series yet remains practically ignored by the lurker's guide...

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

Don't feel bad, literally only released a year ago.

I watched Crusade...

Currently on season 3 of a rewatch haha

Such an awesome show

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 16 points 2 months ago

Such a great show. Humans were rarely the most interesting people. I wish there could've been a much better remastering than what we got, but it's still worth watching. The way everything slowly accelerates through the end of season 4, by which the pace is breathtaking. You can't take time to do that any more with streaming shows.

Sheridan: I really hate it when you do that.

Kosh: Good.

[–] wallybeavis@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

For anyone willing to take one in the nostalgia: Babylon 5 20th Anniversary Reunion at Phoenix Comicon 2013

[–] Servais@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No idea what that is but enjoy guys ha ha

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

The title is a quote from Ambassador Kosh, (the weird looking tall guy in the space suit in the center of the picture.) Said quote refers to events in the TV show Babylon 5. He is basically telling either Captain Sheridan, Commander Sinclair, or possibly Ambassador Delenn, that it is far too late to try to change what is about to happen.

The picture in question is of the primary non-human ambassadors and their support staff.

From Left to right Vir Kotto (attaché to Ambassador Mollari,) Ambassador Londo Mollari of The Centauri Republic, bassado Kosh of The Vorlon, Ambassador Delenn of The Minbari Alliance, Lennier (attaché to Delenn), and Ambassador G'Kar of The Narn Regime.

It's well worth a watch. IMHO Delenn gets one of, if not, the best lines in the show with:

"There is one human who has ever beaten a Minbari warship in battle. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else."

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

Jfc, that line was awesome. I actually shouted when I saw it back then, a big "yeah!" lol

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago

Ivanova's "God sent me" also deserves special mention

[–] SOB_Van_Owen@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

Kosh got some really great lines.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 5 points 2 months ago

...ardwright chamberlain doesn't get enough love: fun fact, he was a screenwriter for robotech!..

[–] Klanky@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Gotta watch the 5th season. We loved the first four but it felt like it wrapped up really well, so we’ve been struggling to start the 5th.

[–] Volkditty@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

You're good, honestly. Unless you're really invested in the Londo/G'kar storyline, the 4th season does indeed wrap everything up.

[–] Odo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It doesn't help that the first half of season 5 is the worst part of the series(well, barring Day of the Dead). It took ages for me to push through that, but the rest was a satisfying conclusion.
