France is a Schengen country. There are no meaningful border controls. He could literally take public transport all the way back to the Russian border without ever pulling his ID out of his pocket. And he probably will.

Assuming he wants to leave in the first place. He has warrant issued in March and still travelled to France. This seems like a case of defection.

Defection to who?

He was chased out of Russia 10 years ago and has been a French citizen for years now.

Ok not defection but secure custody?

European here. That’s true that he could travel (by land) within Schengen, however the EUROPOL database would flag him at border crossings, so he can’t realistically depart Europe. Big area to hide in but then again I’m not sure how realistic that is these days, I mean how long can you go without running a bank card or using a mobile phone?

Cash and a burner?

Long enough to get back to Russia, or at least another country who would be slow enough to respond that he gets away.

This guy presumably has an entourage who haven't all been flagged. And if they have, they call up some other guy and have them wire money to Western Union or whatever.
