I signed up for Nextdoor to see ONE MESSAGE, then I cancelled my account and unsubscribed multiple times. I still get at least 2 emails per day from them.

damn, surely you can block their emails though? No way they're sending that from different emails each time? I hope..
It all goes to spam now, but for about a month (I think) after unsubscribing the final time I had 8-10 squeak through every week.
I just checked my junk folder, and I’ve had 21 emails from them, despite being blocked and having unsubscribed, since the 1st of August.
Also, if anyone reading this is or knows a US Military veteran, PLEASE tell them to not sign up for Together We Served. It’s supposed to be like Facebook for veterans, but it sucks. The thing is, I tried their “premium” service and later could not cancel (I had to have my bank block their charges and get a new card) AND I get just as many or more emails from them too. They’ve gone to my junk folder for so long I’d completely forgot about it. Seriously, that site should not be allowed to operate like that, and it was even pushed to us in official Veterans Affairs emails.
I signed up for TWS almost 20 years ago, but I never really used it. Isn't it really just for finding old service buddies?
I guess? I got a couple of emails from the VA that mentioned it and then I signed up. Don’t know how much it has changed in the meantime. I stopped using it after I kept getting messages from people I don’t/didn’t know about politics, and immediately ran into the problem of cancelling their paid service…
OMG, I'm going through this now. Signed up to see some details of a local street sale. Thankfully, I used a throwaway email and did NOT verify my location. But I'm getting daily emails no matter what I try.
Good news is that I can simply terminate the throwaway account, and I'm good. But it's funny seeing the drama in my neighbourhood. LOL
- Have your domain send all messages of unknown accounts sent to one 'real' address (catch-all)
- Have unique email addresses for every website/service (use a password manager to keep track of credentials)
- When an address gets compromised, caught in a data breach, etc just change the email address to a new address and also (see next)
- When shit websites don't respect opt-out/account closure/etc, send messages to that address to a black hole
Squeeky-clean inbox, and a happy you
Plus now there are services that make this easier. I use “Hide my Email” in my iPhone but I’m sure there are other such services. It generates a unique email address that forwards to my real email, and stores it in the password manager. At any time I can simply click to stop the forwarding and it’s gone
It seems to work! I only wish I had it sooner since most spam is from accounts where I had to use real email
I find LinkedIn useful, but absolutely refuse to install the app on my phone. I figure it's enough to give them access to my contacts and resume to monetize, they don't need my location also.
Whenever I get an email notification that I have a LinkedIn message, I check it the next time I am at my desktop. Then, without fail, after I check it they send me a follow-up email reminding me that "LinkedIn is better on the app!"
That just reinforces the idea that I will never, ever install their app.
I was the same until I was actively looking for another job. I wanted to ability to provide an instant read/response.
I had to make an email filter just for airbnb, after requesting account closure several times.
Booking.com at least honored the 2nd or 3rd request.
If linkedin has an investor page, set a forward so their emails go to investor relations.
That would be funny, but this email includes my name unfortunately.
If you are in the EU, you can use this service to generate GDPR letters to send via email: https://datarequests.org
Thank you 🙌
Unsubscribe. If you still get mail from them, mark as spam.
I reject any smtp connections from their mail server.
So the unsubscribe link doesn't work?
Only until the next email
That's illegal. You could pursue it if you want some free money.
I used LinkedIn very briefly 10 years ago, when I moved back from abroad. I haven't logged in for at least 9 years and actually lost the access. I still get emails from them. I can even unsubscribe without reseting my password und regaining access of my account.
I mark them all as spam.
I'm not sure about the LinkedIn's situation in other countries but, in the country I live in, except for those jobs who have the "Easy Apply", most of the jobs from LinkedIn redirect LinkedIn's users to third-party platforms (such as "Gupy", a HR platform used by many brazilian corps). For every single job one wishes to apply, Gupy will require them to fill all their information again and again. It's infuriating for those who're seeking a job...
The "Easy Apply" also doesn't really help. Several jobs aren't jobs at all, but designed to fill HR's "talent pools". Not to mention the AI-based filtering that HRs are using to select candidates based on "secret keywords", without previous interviewing of such candidate. "Human" resources, as they call themselves. LinkedIn is just an echo chamber for such HRs.
Lastly, I also deactivated my LinkedIn profile ("Hibernated" it), yet I keep receiving those emails ("Your account is still hibernating")...
This is why I use an email aliasing service now. Every new site gets a different email address but they all get forwarded to the same account. If one ever misbehaves, their associated email address alias gets deactivated. It’s great to keep track of who’s selling addresses too.
Sometimes unsubscribe just isn’t good enough.
This is the way!
I've literally never had an account. I've never even like started the process. I get emails a few times a year from them because ONCE a friend invited me. This was over a decade ago.
Why did you block the number of views? Are you embarrassed?
It says 1.8M and they doesn't wanna disclose their identity.
so incredibly embarrassed..
Me too mate, me too.
Yeah, they do this to entice you to come back and re-activate your profile. Change the email for the account to one you use for spam/sign-ups so they won't have any connection to you and fully delete the account.
Great idea, have started doing this for new services i sign up for now too. Slowly but surely improving my email-privacy.
I hate that platform. My account got blocked because I haven't used it in a long time but was still receiving emails. I decided to delete it but I had to submit my ID. I wasn't very happy about it but apparently they delete the data right after verifying your identity. Anyway, I submitted 2 requests and waited over 3 weeks and no one bothered to look at my case. I literally had to go through the privacy policy to find a contact for a data protection officer to write an email to. You can't contact support or even unsubscribe from the emails without logging in first. Just terrible.
Simply put "unsubscribe" in a folder rule for your mail client and delete them automatically. Obviously if you have newsletter subscriptions you actually want to receive Marie sure those are filtered and sorted away before the "unsubscribe"tile kicks in
