B-b-but he took a test that said he's a stable genius! He had to identify cartoon animals and everything!!!

[–] banner80@fedia.io 74 points 3 months ago (3 children)

He said he aced the dementia test, he boasted to anyone that would listen. He said he has no issues spotting a cartoon giraffe or even remembering 5 words in a row.

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 24 points 3 months ago

"The cow says 'Moo'"

"Great job Mr. Trump!"

<Surreptitiously hides spinning farm animal child's toy>

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

You said boasted past tense, but it's happened so recently I doubt he will ever stop boasting about it.

[–] lolrightythen@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I would love it if that were an accurate description of a 5 year olds i.q. test

Edit* Wait, is it?

[–] ZeroCool@feddit.org 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.

[–] sp451@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

WTF. Are you rainman? You still remember today! You must be the smartest person on the planet!

[–] Xtallll@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Also those words would never be used for a memory evaluation, they are too closely related, I believe he was just naming what he could see.

[–] Duranie@literature.cafe 9 points 3 months ago

Within the context of where he was when he stated that list, 100% it was just what he saw in the moment when looking for inspiration for 5 words. If you sat a child down in a room full of toys and asked them to name 5 things, they would probably name their 5 favorite, or most obvious toys in front of them.

Someone who was more with it would be able to put in the effort to pick random, less related words.

Dude, Clinton today is still younger than Trump and he was president 25 years ago.

[–] ech@lemm.ee 70 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yes, that is what the graphic is pointing out. Trump is currently older than all of them except Biden.

[–] banner80@fedia.io 30 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Clinton was inaugurated in 1993. That's 31 years ago. Taylor Swift was 3 years old when Bill Clinton became president.

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

That's a 10:1 Taylor ratio.

It's ok, its not metric

[–] Chewget@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago

"How many taylor swifts old are our candidates? And more after the break"

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, Metric didn't start until 1998.

[–] lemonmelon@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah, well... I remember when you were gambling to win, everybody else said, "Better luck next time!"

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When did Swift become a reference point for old? Now my back hurts.

[–] Chewget@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

Just for perspective in this case, I think

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

Mom, look, that's the Matemagician they've been talking about!

[–] ech@lemm.ee 28 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I knew Trump was old, but this really puts it in perspective. I mean, he's only a month older than W, but W was also "only" 55 when he was inaugurated, not nearing 80. Fuck.

[–] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Everyone knows by now that Trump is the GOP. Grand Ole Papy.

[–] secret300@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 3 months ago

At this point I want Obama back

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

They don't care. They don't want a competent leader. They just want to win. They want a bit of dopamine.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

He's also the 3rd and 4th oldest candidate ever iirc.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (3 children)

Biden was a candidate up till a few days ago. So Biden is still the oldest candidate ever.

trump might grab the "oldest nominee ever" because he's born a couple months later than Biden.

Similarly, trump took office at 70 years and 220 days in 2016, so he could also grab "oldest to enter office", that record is held by 2020 Biden at 78 years, 61 days in the unfortunate case he wins.

I know it's just a meme. But it's worth the accuracy of being pedantic.

Edit:

Nope, not even the oldest nominee:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Cooper

Dude was 84, which means neither Biden or trump have been the oldest nominee/candidate.

But Biden still has record for oldest president

[–] ImpressiveEssay@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Did the Democratic party announce his candidacy!?

I ain't American but i thought they hadn't announced on yet... Source that they did? Just so I can catch up. Thanks!

[–] Fermion@feddit.nl 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's their distinction between candidate and nominee. Biden was a candidate for 2024 presidential race but had not yet become the DNC nominee.

[–] ImpressiveEssay@lemmy.world -3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh sick. So he wasn't a nominee yet.

Is trump the oldest nominee?!!

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think he is.

But I don't know the ages of every failed campaign. It's easy to check the winners, but there might have been someone even older that lost.

But I doubt it.

[–] ImpressiveEssay@lemmy.world -3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

LOL!

You have made a big impact correcting this image. Although it would have been less partisan if you just said 'nomineee... Not candidate.'

Lol.. but you didn't cos... Well I wonder why. Why didnt you?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I legitimately don't even know what you're asking...

[–] lemonmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I'm not sure they do, either.

[–] banner80@fedia.io 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Trump was nominated by his party at the RNC in July. The Democrats will nominate their candidate next month at the DNC, and that will be Harris. Biden is no longer running for president. Currently, the race is between Trump who is the oldest nominee ever, and Kamala Harris.

[–] rand_alpha19@moist.catsweat.com 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I thought the DNC didn't name their candidate until after the convention. He was the presumptive candidate as the incumbent, but I didn't think he had official candidacy yet.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's candidate (multiple for each party) then after the convention, they become the "nominee" (one per party).

It's confusing because the party keeps trying to act like primaries are over after the first handful of states vote.

So for months they're talking about a candidate like it's the only option, but they're still not the nominee.

[–] rand_alpha19@moist.catsweat.com 2 points 3 months ago

Ah, gotcha. I confused candidate and nominee since they're often used interchangeably in the way you mentioned.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago (4 children)

all those "today" are unnecessary and confusing, alive people don't pass each other in age

[–] ech@lemm.ee 9 points 3 months ago

It's clarifying that trump isn't just older than their age when they took office, he's older than their current age.

[–] NineMileTower@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

alive people don’t pass each other in age

Numerically, yes. But some people age considerably fast in other regards. Prince William and Nicki Minaj are the same age. Beyonce and Elijah Wood? Same age. John Cena and John Oliver. Same.

[–] Trail@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Depends on the gravity and/or acceleration that they experience in their frame of reference.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Surelly the additional gravitational force felt by Trump due to his outsided ego has accelerated his aging?!

[–] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works -3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's all just a play to be able to say when Biden took office, when they don't on the others. The wording makes it seem like they say the same for all.

Tries to hide the fact that Biden is still older than Trump (which should come as no surprise to anyone)

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Why would they hide it? Biden's not up for re-election.
