This is why Musk wants to defeat Biden. Biden's billionaire tax on the rich...

Under Biden's proposals, a 25% tax on those with more than $100 million would raise $500 billion over 10 years to help fund benefits such as child care and paid parental leave.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/15/bidens-billionaire-tax-hits-the-super-rich-can-a-wealth-tax-work.html

[–] WhatIsThePointAnyway@lemmy.world 97 points 4 months ago (2 children)

And with that 25% tax he would still have more money than he could ever spend. These billionaires are not humans, their ghouls. They deserve our hate.

[–] Vlyn@lemmy.zip 30 points 4 months ago

For them money is just a highscore. They either win or lose, the actual amount doesn't matter at all.

The asshole could spend a thousand lifetimes just lying on the beach and sipping cocktails and he'd still be a billionaire.

[–] Dagrothus@reddthat.com 13 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Buying politicians can get expensive. Wont you think of the poor billionaires that would have to cut down on their bribery if there were a wealth tax??

if he keeps dragging his companies down, he won't have to worry so much about a tax on the ultra-wealthy anymore.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

Unfortunately, government bailouts exist.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 27 points 4 months ago

More importantly, the race is a 50/50 split and if Trump won, and Elon didn’t pay up, all of his most profitable businesses could be killed by Trump.

For example, Trump has been threatening to fuck over EV manufacturers.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 133 points 4 months ago (6 children)

You could do a lot of good with that money. Like, build a ton of housing. Replace some lead pipes or other hazardous infrastructure. Pay some medical debt.

Instead he does this.

I won't be mad if Musk meets a sudden end. I just hope it's a really embarrassing one.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 40 points 4 months ago (1 children)

In a perfect world libertarians wouldn't exist, empathy would be far higher in all humans, and we wouldn't have any of these problems like homelessness or starvation. But we don't live in a perfect world. We live in hell.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 29 points 4 months ago (4 children)

without libertarians, who's gonna advocate for lowering the age of consent? who will maintain spreadsheets of states and their ages of consent with details about their Romeo & Juliet laws? who will think of the children, so to speak?

[–] Kedly@lemm.ee 5 points 4 months ago

I read that as librarians at first and was really confused as to why you were suddenly throwing shade at them xD

Adderall overdose?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 12 points 4 months ago

More like ketamine accident

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

Be a real shame if the airline industry got deregulated and private planes started falling out of the sky.

[–] Delusional@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I hope he would die from autoerotic asphyxiation and someone snaps a photo of him hanging there and posts it on the net for everyone to make fun of.

Supporting a rapist seems pretty on brand for him.

One of great examples why billionaires shouldn't exist.

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 90 points 4 months ago

Jesus christ I hate this guy.

"When Elon Musk came to the White House asking me for help on all of his many subsidized projects, whether it's electric cars that don't drive long enough, driverless cars that crash, or rocketships to nowhere, without which subsidies he'd be worthless, and telling me how he was a big Trump fan and Republican, I could have said, 'drop to your knees and beg,' and he would have done it." -- Donald Trump

Vote! And make Elon worthless.

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 70 points 4 months ago (10 children)

If you're too stupid to vote for Biden to save America from Fascism (talking to you, Tankies), at least vote for him to make Elon Musk waste a bunch of money.

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Elon is all talk. I'll believe it when he produces receipts.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago

Lmao. I hate that I feel this way also

[–] Jiggle_Physics@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If legislation under Trump will be worth more than that donation to him, it is a no brainer.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Elon doesn't seem to be that rational.

What an incredibly inclusive statement. I don’t know why we’re in this mess.

[–] Ferrous@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

The rich and powerful of the nation are coordinating to usher in fascism at lightning speed, and you're worried about the 500 pinkos who won't vote Biden because of his complicity in genocide? You've taken the same side as MAGA in blaming all the country's problems on leftists. It is misdirection. You've been effortlessly oriented to be so wickedly invested in American electoralism, that you now have zero reservations about voting for candidates who both want genocide.

In 30 years, will you still be militantly democrat when the choice is between a dem who wants 5 genocides and a republican who wants 10?

Fascism Is Possible Not in Spite of Liberal Capitalism, but Because of It

Edit: Also, Musk could continue doing these monthly payments for the next 460 years without making another cent ever again. This notion of "wasting his money" is silly. Each month takes a mere 0.02% hit on his account.

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

If Trump wins we surely will be heading for a final solution.

We needed Batman, and we ended up with Fatman.

I wonder how much wealth Fatman's family accrued while Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.

[–] 5in1k@lemm.ee 46 points 4 months ago

What an asshole.

[–] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 41 points 4 months ago

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Musk said he is planning to contribute around $45 million a month to a new pro-Trump super PAC, dubbed America PAC. In donating to the PAC, he will join the Winklevoss twins, Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of the spy tech firm Palantir Technologies; and former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft along her husband Joe Craft, the CEO of Alliance Resource Partners, a coal producer.

A veritable who's who of America's douchiest rich assholes.

[–] JimmyBigSausage@lemm.ee 40 points 4 months ago

What a sad sod.

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 34 points 4 months ago

Couldn’t help apartheid in his own country, so he imported it to America.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 29 points 4 months ago

And the only people I see defend this turd are always white, privileged, male and super delusional about their status.

[–] Sabre363@sh.itjust.works 28 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Hey, maybe we'll all finally get to go to space.

As slaves under a fascist regime, but that's just minor details

[–] radivojevic@discuss.online 6 points 4 months ago

He probably won’t be doing any public speaking now.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

With money like that, it's no wonder people "support" Trump. Gold mines need shovels.
