How do you get a thumbnail to the site when posting a link to a site? (lemmy.world)

As the title states. When I post an url, I do not get a thumbnail, but a white box with the external link arrow. How can I get a small snapshot as a thumbnail for the post?

Should this be generated automatically? Or is this something that needs to be done manually? If so how?

It should get the image from the URL.
