I have only one thing to say to whatever killed Donald Sutherland:

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 38 points 4 months ago

Also loved his work in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I assume that's from Invasion of the Body Snatchers? I've only seen the pose spoofed in other media, most memorable being Space Quest IV (think it's that one, been a few decades since playing the series now). Mean to watch it someday, maybe a good time in remeberance.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

That is correct. And it's an excellent film, as is the original from 1956.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

I dunno, Italian spiderman had a decent take

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's the best version of the movie really.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, he balanced that out by being in the terrible 1990s version of The Puppet Masters, but they can't all be good.

[–] dudinax@programming.dev 4 points 4 months ago

Puppet master secret service scene is awesome

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

It ain’t that bad! Ain’t that good either but still!

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 10 points 4 months ago

This scene shaved years off my life, haha. He absolutely nailed it.

[–] BedInspector@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I will forever call capers rat turds because if this man.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

This movie kept me up nights as a kid.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 28 points 4 months ago (5 children)

My favorite role he played was Oddball in Kelly's Heroes

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

Always with the negative waves, Moriarty. Always with the negative waves.

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

Woof, woof, woof! That's my other dog imitation

That's such a positive wave, maybe they can't lose...

[–] CalamityPayne@jlai.lu 4 points 4 months ago

It's a motherbeautiful bridge! Think it'll be there, and it'll be there.

Absolutely loved him as Oddball. RIP Donald Sutherland.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Love him in that.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 24 points 4 months ago (2 children)

im going to watch mash tonight. i think he is one of the only reasons that movie hit big.

If you want a laugh play that song at 1.25x speed.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I honestly can't say I like the movie. It's from that era of the 70s where they decided movies don't need a plot.

But he is really good in it.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Gould too. They were both hilarious and charismatic.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Absolutely. They were a terrific team-up and I doubt I would have enjoyed the movie at all if they hadn't been in it. Right up there in that era with Butch and Sundance in terms of a charismatic cinematic duo.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Also it was a Vietnam film that got past the censors by being explicitly about The Korean War.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

The pyro in Backdraft...the guy even showed up in Beerfest. Helluva career. 141 films and 42 TV shows according to his Wiki. RIP.

[–] tenchiken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 4 months ago

Buffy. Puppet masters. MASH. Salute to you good sir. You entertained and made this life a bit more bearable.

[–] dditty@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago

Donald Sutherland was easily one of the best living actors. RIP to one of the GOATs 🫡

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Definitely an anti-social type. Woof woof woof woof! That's my other dog imitation.

[–] mkhopper@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

It flies under the radar, but I really liked him as the crooked warden in Lock Up.

[–] numberfour002@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Is this one actually dead or is this another one where the news has jumped the gun?

[–] bouldering_barista@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I don't know why but of all his movies (I'm 30s) I think of the Italian Job. Great actor though in everything he's done.

[–] Perturabo@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Just recently watched Virus. Great movie.

RIP

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

What’s your name soldier?

Number two, sir!

[–] x4740N@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

I have only seen him in the hunger games so I always think of him as that evil guy from the hunger games
