There must be a singularity when you become a father

[–] groucho@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 4 months ago

I became a dad late (around middle age) and was telling dad jokes way before that. My theory is it's less about becoming a father and more about getting older and just wanting to annoy people for my own amusement.

Please expand. I'll never be a father, but I'm curious.

Or are you referring to dad jokes?

[–] mouth_brood@lemmy.one 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

It's more about not really caring if the person you're telling the joke to finds it funny and more about amusing yourself

thats true for puns and quick wit, but theres also a new obligation to keep it clean and you have to keep the offensive filth internal.

Oh, I do this all the time. Might be age, then!

I've always loved self-enhancing humor. Maybe this is why I've been told I was never a child. Lol.

Do you mean self-effacing by any chance? Love that for you if you not though

[–] AnalogyAddict@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, self-enhancing. It was in the article.
