Because of games like this im leaning more and more toward indie games. We had so many good inde games in last few years. And i always buy games like this at full price because developer/s deserve.

this is a game from the same developer as The Messenger, I really like The Messenger, especially the humour, I just wish at least they bring that humour in Sea of Stars as well

[–] privacyn@feddit.it 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The messenger was a fantastic game. This is completely different, but I’ll give it a try considered the developer.

[–] Jarmer 2 points 1 year ago

Same! Messenger was just SO GOOD.

[–] brawleryukon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

It's not only by the same dev, it's actually a prequel to The Messenger, set a couple thousand years before.

Straiiiiight on the wishlist, although I hope it will release on GOG eventually 🤞

[–] drekly@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Nice! It looks like a modern take on a classic chrono-style RPG

[–] ominouslemon@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Did not know about this, but it looks great! Wishlisting it

[–] Dassen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Wishlists, looks like a great Deck game.

Maybe for when I finish Eastward.

I played the demo of this during the last Steam demo week. I liked it!

[–] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Same here. It felt really good, looking forward to it.

Yeah the demo was great, and that boss music... chef's kiss

First time I see this, looks great!

Hope it's a good a place as any to ask this. I've got an itch for a jrpg in the classic style, but one with modern conveniences.

Never finished FFVI because I put it down and later didn't know where I was nor was doing. Completed Golden Sun I and II, but only with the aid of walkthroughs. Tried a buch of others but don't really remember them.

Edit: Recommendations for a great modern JRPG in the classic style?

[–] RaketenRonny500@feddit.de 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well, what's your question?

[–] tissek@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, kind of missed that. Recommendations for a great modern JRPG in the classic style?

[–] maidenless_prawn@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

CrossCode - this isn't a jrpg nor a classic style per ser but I'd say it's heavily inspired by them. I've been playing it for a while and it really is a gem of a game. Check it out if it's your thing.

Other modern games which are a jrpgs that I haven't played but heard good things are Chained Echoes and Octopath Traveller. Those are akin to retro classic style jrpgs

I love seeing all the CrossCode recommendations, and on Lemmy of all places. Here I thought no one knew about it!

Easily my favorite game of all time. I don't think it ever drops the ball, the combat is awesome, the story is incredible, and the characters are so well written that you'll think they're actually real people.

The biggest criticism is the game's puzzles, but they aren't really as bad as some (very impatient) people make them out to be, and there are options to decrease the difficulty of the puzzles.

[–] maidenless_prawn@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Dude I had CrossCode on my wishlist for years and forgot about it, until I watched a video praising it and saying to not let indie games like this one die in obscurity when they deserve much more attention.

So I bought it on last Steam sale and fuck, I wholeheartedly agree with that video. I just beat my first dungeon and it's such a beautiful and fun game - the characters being one of my favorite aspects.

It's painfully sad how severely underrated CrossCode is. It needs more praise and love so I'm doing my best to raise awareness of it lol.

Wouldn't be surprised if this one becomes one of my favorites.

[–] probablyaCat@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I love crosscode. Although I'd say it is more of an action rpg than a jrpg. The combat system is real time hack and slash with only a select set of special abilities you unlock as you play.

Still, the other elements are very jrpg-ish. Loads of people, items, and exploration. And lots of talking.

[–] secondaccountlemmy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Definitely Chained Echoes. It has a lot of modern touches.

You get healed after every fight and so you actually get to use skills. You only level up after boss battles so the game is scaled properly and you dont need to grind. The overheat system is also a good mechanic to spice up turn-based battles.

If you have a Switch, I definitely recommend Fire Emblem: Three Houses as a modernization of the Tactics RPG genre.

[–] OtakuAltair@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I heavily recommend CrossCode. Hands-down one of my all time faves.

Chained Echoes was also published by Deck13 and is equally amazing. It's turn-based, unlike CrossCode.

[–] hogart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's hard when we don't know what you have played. My go to recommendation is always Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch if you never played it. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I feel Octopath and Bravely Default are played by 99% of people interested in jrpgs. Chained Echoes should be a good recommendation as well. But you might have played all these.

[–] tissek@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Basically the only JRPGs that I remember anything of, story or mechanics wise, is FFVI and Golden Sun I&II. So really a blank slate and looking at at pretty much all recommendations.

[–] hogart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Go with my mentions then! They are awesome!

[–] Sharpiemarker@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago

Apparently I had already added it to my wishlist. Thanks past me!

[–] Lord_Logjam@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I'll be taking a look at this in Gamepass. Looks really nice.

[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I've been waiting all year for this to come out! 😁

[–] Zoldyck@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Seeing it for the first time now. I need this.

[–] Azzu@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Looks like Golden Sun

[–] dog@suppo.fi -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The thumbnail made me go "Aww yiss, a new Warcraft 3 like RTS?", but then I got disappointed when I opened up the store page.

That said, this looks good art wise.

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Damn now I want a new Warcraft III 😭
