Raivo launched another update today with the following message:

Dear users,

We apologize for the issues caused by our recent update. Please be assured that we are working around the clock to find a solution for this situation. In this version, we have implemented a temporary fix that enables the import and export feature.

If you receive a prompt asking you to choose between offline backup or iCloud, please select iCloud and enter your MASTERKEY. This will allow you to recover all of your codes.

We are still working and conducting thorough testing to determine how we can resolve this issue. We appreciate your patience.

Best regards,

Unfortunately I did not sync my app to iCloud previously due to distrust with Apple, which I acknowledge is entirely my fault. This means I was not able to recover my codes.

I suggest using 2FAS instead of Raivo. I've used it for 9 months and had no issues whatsoever.

Edit: @pr0927@lemmy.world has also recommended ente

@emptyfish@beehaw.org, luck is in your favor.

If you are on iOS, I recommend using the following:

https://ente.io/auth/

It's open-source and recommended by PrivacyGuides.

I'm on Android, where that's also an option I believe, but I'm using Aegis.

Bitwarden also came out with an open-source MFA app, though it's a bit new so I'd recommend waiting to see what folks say about it.

Raivo uses to be a good (and the only decent) choice for iOS but I believe it was acquired by an insidious company.

Very helpful, thank you! Raivo was, unfortunately, sold out to a company months ago. Many people, like myself, flocked to 2FAS. It's nice to know that other options are popping up.

Didn’t know this had happened. Shoot.

I use bitwarden's new 2fa app and it works, no issues

If you can afford it, I personally highly recommend just buying two USB-C hardware Yubikeys and storing it on there. Built in back up and if you put it on your keyring, it’s always nearby. You can still use your phone to access the code as well.

Not exactly super helpful for solving this problem but since you’re already going to have to reset or get new accounts, it’s a good time to switch over if you’re interested.

I only do that for critical things as it’s more annoying to do for everything

If anything I use them for everything because I find it much easier / faster.

Welp, there goes my morning. Now I have to spend a few hours unfucking everything.

Never trusting this app ever again.

I am currently using authy. I would like an open source alternative, of course, but seeing how important 2fa is, I require proper sync/backups, like authy has. I don't want to manage them myself with google drive or the likes, as I don't even have a google acc.

Aegis is Android only.

What's the deal with Raivo being a subscription-only? I have never seen this screen... screenshot

they just wiped my data without asking.
