Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

from the comments @jamiebautista4486 Considering the Marcoses are back in power in the Philippines, with Imelda having long desired to clean up their image, her son now president, having a play now that can make people empathize with Imelda the way David Byrne did, the timing seems…. strange. As someone in the Philippines working to help the world and younger generations  ot forget martial law or the human rights violations the Marcoses never admitted or showed remorse for, a play that could glamorize her and her family, make her seem like an “Evita” with millions in marketing and production budget feels discouraging to me and downright offensive to those who suffered under their regime. It feels like having a Trump musical that only lightly touches on Jan 6 but focuses more on his The Apprentice days.

I thought Byrne was going to talk about her in a negative light but it looks to be in reverence. Admittedly, the story does seem funny/ridiculous when viewed from an outsider perspective.
