Lol. Unions today are weird.

1930s: This isn’t safe. We aren't working until it's safe.
2024: This isn’t safe. Pay us more and we'll do it anyways.

It means that the business is incentivised to put in aircon but they don't need to stop work if its out of order or a rare occurrence. Lots of jobs are unsafe. We take measures to mitigate the risk rather than eliminate it and pay should reflect that.
