A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. A showerthought should offer a unique perspective on an ordinary part of life.

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. Avoid politics
    1. NEW RULE as of 5 Nov 2024, trying it out
    2. Political posts often end up being circle jerks (not offering unique perspective) or enflaming (too much work for mods).
    3. Try c/politicaldiscussion, volunteer as a mod here, or start your own community.
  4. Posts must be original/unique

In Star Trek, Commander Data is socially awkward because he lacks training data. This might be because he was built and developed in isolation from the rest of society. (lemmy.zip)

no world building/lore substance.

I like Picard and Discovery because they do better at this. At least they have a story arc over a season, and both seem to fit with canon well enough for me. The first season of Discovery is the best Star Trek ever

Strange New World is also good, but it took a lot longer for me to get into because it is more “story of the week”, similar to older series. Plus the previews/ads did not appeal to me at all. Eventually I did get over it and enjoyed the show for what it is
