These nature crossings allow wildlife to move over large roads and highways without any danger. They also allow us to track populations based on the frequency of crossings. The only problem is animals gotta teach other animals about the crossing and until they do they won’t use it.

I know what they are, I don’t get the comic.

The last line of their comment explains it: "The only problem is animals gotta teach other animals about the crossing and until they do they won’t use it." The comic is showing a deer being confused by the crossing and another deer teaching

I still don't get it. Are we supposed to know that? And how is any part of that funny?

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 18 points 7 months ago (2 children)

A comic does not need to be funny, this one is informative and trying to show the world from the animals perspective.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu -5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's so not informative? I don't need comics to be funny to enjoy them. I just don't understand it. Still.

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 12 points 7 months ago

Best advice I can give is to read all the comments explaining, or do like me and accept that there are many reasons for some memes/jokes to pass us by.

[–] Alamp@lemm.ee 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'd assume the joke is that deers don't usually teach using a whiteboard? I don't think it's that funny either but there's not much to get, it's just a cute drawing.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ah okay ye that part for sure but it seems that all the rest should be significant, or we could have a one panel comic and enjoy that

[–] Alamp@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

You have my full blessing to go forth and create such a comic ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

[–] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's cute and absurd, that's all there is to it

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 2 points 7 months ago

Ah that makes some sense

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I mean, I did. And I found it funny. But to each his own, you know?

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

No fun allowed

[–] anguo@lemmy.ca 7 points 7 months ago

I think its more that the deer discovers the crossing, and then explains it to others.

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@feddit.nl 37 points 7 months ago

I'm in the same bridge. I get what's happening, but I don't get what, if any, the punchline is.

[–] Zombifrog@lemm.ee 26 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The deer have discovered a breach in our defences, France will soon be annexed.

[–] LesserAbe@lemmy.world 16 points 7 months ago

I think the humor is in thinking one deer was like "holy shit, I've got to tell the others" and then giving a formal presentation where the other deer are also like "holy shit"

[–] OwlPaste@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Its a green bridge like animal crossing to encourage wildlife to cross our infrastructure without getting run over.

Its pretty sad and depressing when you drive for 2 hours and see at least 2 deer and 1 hedgehog roadkills, where it can be reduced by just not only thinking about ourselves.

[–] lowleveldata@programming.dev 18 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I get what that infrastructure is. But I still don't get why the animals suddenly enlightened after a whiteboard explanation.

[–] OwlPaste@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

Well if it makes you feel better i don't get the punchline either other than "why don't we do this everywhere"...

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

They are discussing tactics, I guess

[–] JayleneSlide@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

My read of this is: Deer and squirrels tend to run in front of moving cars*. The two species are distressed that something interrupted their ability to bolt into traffic.

*Where I live, obnoxiously and assertively so. The mule deer almost wait for cars to approach, run into the road, and then just stand there. Traffic-blocking protests have nothing on the deer.

[–] Kolli@sopuli.xyz 4 points 7 months ago

My understanding: First deer discoveres a case when you can run over road unharmed. Teaches others, where they understand one can run safely over the road anywhere, thus the suprisement. Probably farfetched, but dank.
