Seems to be the elf is setting themselves up to receive the human's inheritance money. If they play their cards right they could pull this scam many times

Is this an AI situation

Right, just like people could theoretically buy a vehicle that transports shipping containers but they have no reason to. I guess where consumers do start to interact personally with standardized container sizes are things like aluminum beverage cans. Personally I'd love to see more standardization but companies selling to individual consumers have an urge to make their packaging as unique as possible.

You're right they have a fiduciary duty. I think what the other commenter was saying is that the interpretation of that duty can be twisted into all kinds of shapes. If someone believed in pro social ideas they could make the case that treating workers with respect and growing sustainably is the best way to continue making money. That a shareholder would demand other crueler or more short-sighted policies doesn't mean a legal requirement.

That would be a neat feature. I remember in college which was in the middle of nowhere our professor was trying to promote a bike trail between the two closest towns, because there used to be train tracks going through. Good to get anything, like a recreational path, but I'd prefer transport that serves commuting needs too.

To clarify I'm talking about aesthetics. I'm not defending anything safety wise. But that's an unrelated argument from "it's ugly".

It's clearly an emotionally charged object, which is why in one of my other comments here I said I'd probably accept a pt cruiser instead, just because people make the instant connection between the truck and elon musk.

Fun idea, I hope it works! In the states I don't think there's sufficient abandoned rail that's also near population centers for this to succeed.

The article actually says they're developing a device to transfer them from one track to the other

Taste is subjective so if someone doesn't like it that's valid.

For me, designs are successful based on the impression and experience they give people. The cyber truck to me gives off a futuristic vibe, it's intentional, it's a design that knows what it wants. Minimal polygons, minimal rounded edges. Uncommon material/finish. Visually striking, unique, memorable.

I think the Aztec isn't a good design because it wants to be futuristic but doesn't go far enough. Because it's trying to retain some traditional elements it looks like design by committee.

My impression is the pt cruiser and SSR were intended to be modern takes on retro/classy designs from say, the 50s. In the sense that they're curved they succeed, but the curves are in the wrong places and the curve radiuses are wrong. They look bubbly. They look like toys. The effect is amplified because they don't have a lot of the fine detail that was present on old cars.

Yeah I know some people like it. Only reason it was on my mind was my mom was talking about wanting one the other day and I had to look it up.

Question inspired by the news that Dave and Busters is supposed to be adding gambling to their games. And of course there are the sports betting apps.

I get that all things being equal we should let people do what they want to do. But I don't see much of a benefit, and a lot of downside to allowing the spread of gambling.

Let's assume no zombies or other supernatural occurrences, but could be plenty of people being shitty, consequences thereof, or natural disasters

Edit: to expand on this, presumably if society has temporarily or permanently collapsed there would be issues with things like deliveries, security, digital transactions, utility service etc. Feel free to use whichever scenario seems most likely to you, I'm asking more because I was thinking how screwed I'd be if I was just out of food after say, seven days.

I don't mean the actual rules of passing it, I mean what organization, activities and funding are necessary to do so.

The last one passed was in 1992 and it was just about congressional pay. Last one before that was 1971. Is there some kind of play book? It seems to happen so infrequently that it would be hard to study and conditions would vary enough that the last effort wouldn't be useful as a model.

("The amendment process is very difficult and time consuming: A proposed amendment must be passed by two-thirds of both houses of Congress, then ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states." Link)

We're talking actions limited to something one human could achieve - so not wishes, but could be something amazing or rare like "become president"

"...These kinds of private conferences, where business and cultural leaders interview one another free from the pesky, prying grasp of the press or public, are becoming increasingly common."

I like getting glasses off of Zenni but they never seem to fit quite right, mostly the arms. Would be nice to be able to make adjustments.

Or by only putting one stick of memory in, or changing the slot you're using.

I was assembling a computer and everything seemed to be correct, the fan would spin up, I'd get some lights, but there was no image on the screen, not even the BIOS. I saw someone else make this suggestion and didn't think it was likely to work, but it did. First I just tried one stick, and it booted. Then I tried both sticks and it didn't work, but I reseated and then it did.

(Also worth pointing out that your motherboard should have diagnostic lights which if you check the documentation may point out which component has an issue)

Thinking about Lemmy's demographics many here may have heard of something like this, or have more helpful suggestions about troubleshooting which would be welcome. But thought I'd write out a little post about my experience to contribute to Lemmy SEO supremacy.

Amazing and horrific footage. Definitely not easy to watch, but worth seeing.
