ooh nice.

I've also read that putting bananas and apples in the bowl is a thing too but I'm not sure if that actually works.

Only if you enclose the whole bowl in a paper or plastic bag. The apples/banana gives of ethylene gas which ripens the other stuff. Same as colesworth does in its warehouse when it wants to sell us 'ripe' fruit.
