Hello everyone from Sweden! You may get annoyed with us Americans, so do I. But I have a lot of ancestry from Sweden and I'm very interested to meet some of you and learn more about Sweden in general. Music, food, pop culture, slang. All of it.
I play video games (of course) and love space and science. I'd love to make a discord and get to know some of you, maybe play some games on steam as well.
Since this is reddit, you may already be exposed to much American media and culture, but I can offer to teach you anything you'd like about America or explain any current events over here as well.
Nice to meet all of you in advance, adjö!

Well, we all have a lot of Swedish ancestry. And a lot from other European countries. But nobody cares. That is an American thing you have to leave behind. It’s like that thread about the American guy that was deeply offended that people in Poland didn’t treat him as royalty because he was an American with polish ancestry. Anyway good luck with the friend hunt.

It very much is an American thing.
"300 years is a long time in America, 300 miles is a long way in Europe"
We're all immigrants and mutts here with no real tie to the land we own. So many of us do seek our ancestry out of pure curiosity and it drives learning worldly knowledge and cultures hopefully.
Thanks!

People are definitely interested to talk about it with you, maybe even help find your distant relatives if there's something to go by. Just don't take it too far and make it a part of every conversation.
The thread the other guy mentioned was a pretty good measure how not to think and behave. The man was saying that he'd never return to Poland since "people were nice and helpful, but they didn't care that much about my Polish heritage". Something along those lines. It's just not that big of a deal to us.

Never, not me. Even if my relatives were alive, they probably aren't anything fancy.
I'd go-to Sweden for the fish, that orange soda I've heard of 'moose blood' or something. And the snow.

Orange soda with moose blood? Never heard of that but sounds like something a small brewery could come up with! There is a beer brewed occasionally where I'm from made with reindeer blood. Usually around the time there's a metal festival (of course) called House of Metal. Name of the beer is "Reinin Blood" I believe. Haven't tried it myself though so no idea how good it is!

It tastes somewhat like Irn Bru if you ever tried that

That's a great soda but absolutely does not contain any animal blood hahahha. Someone must have tried to play a prank on you!

Trocadero is a top tier soda, and definitely something to try in Sweden!

Trocadero is awesome, but do not expect it to taste like oranges, because it doesn't :D
Tastes more like caramel/fruit mix.

Actually.. the taste of trocadero is orange and apple

Yeah, but it tastes like neither tbh

No, it definitely doesn't! It's its own flavour. It's trocca!

Do this: drink it, and think of ”orange” and ”apple”. Then you will definitely notice it.

We will generally have hard time to connect with you having Swedish ancestry 300 years ago etc. But if you are able to track down where your Swedish ancestors come from, if it's a small place, and you go there and talk with the local Swedes. Then you might get people excited to talk to you, especially curious about how it went for your ancestors.

Where did you get the 300 years ago from? Most Swedes emigrated in the late 19th and early 20th century. My great grandpa and his siblings came in one of the last waves in the 20s.

Saying it as an example because that's what he said in the comment I replied to. And yes I know, I have relatives who went to US in the mid 19th century.

300 English miles (50 Swedish miles) is not particularly long in Sweden, though. We're 1000 English miles (160 Swedish miles) from south to north.
Most of us have a bunch of great great uncles and great great aunts that emigrated, indeed. And my great grandmother emigrated when she was an infant, but they moved back home after some years (my great great aunt was an American citizen all her life by Amendment XIV, Section 1, Clause 1 and was called "Amerikanskan" even though she had no memory of ever been in America).

Some Swedish people act like this too. I have relatives who have släktforskat (? What is this in English? Genealogy research?) more than 1000 years back and they believe our heritage is Ynglingaätten (Yes, I am serious, "obviously" my heritage is the gods of old lol).
I find it ridiculous and obviously someone lied about this way back, but yeah some people in my family really do believe this is true.
