Hello everyone from Sweden! You may get annoyed with us Americans, so do I. But I have a lot of ancestry from Sweden and I'm very interested to meet some of you and learn more about Sweden in general. Music, food, pop culture, slang. All of it.
I play video games (of course) and love space and science. I'd love to make a discord and get to know some of you, maybe play some games on steam as well.
Since this is reddit, you may already be exposed to much American media and culture, but I can offer to teach you anything you'd like about America or explain any current events over here as well.
Nice to meet all of you in advance, adjö!

Hi there friend!
I feel sorry for you that you need to excuse yourself the first thing you do. As someone else mentioned people might be annoyed at politics, not the american people.
Eitherway space and science is cool so I will offer you this as an insight to our society.

Swedish people have a larger area that they perceive as their personal space than people from other countries. Standing at arms length is comfortable enough if talking to someone you don't know very well, but with strangers in public spaces we would prefer more of a distance if possible.

I've heard that foreigners can't hear if we are angry or talking about the weather

Oh yeah, I was giving this girl serious grief about badmouthing her boyfriend in swedish, which he didn't understand since he don't speak the language. He thought we were having a nice conversation while we were calling each other very horrid names lol.

Generally speaking we don't want to bother other people, everyone is kinda minding their own business.

Ahh I can dig that. You do you, I'll do me. Just don't harm each other and get along when we have to.
Kind of like family on the holidays

If you are interested I would recommend reading this https://hejsweden.com/en/swedish-culture-guide/ (Although I don't agree with everything it says)
Also https://www.reddit.com/r/TillSverige/ is a subreddit dedicated to moving to Sweden but it is also a great place for questions.

Not really, the sure fire way to spot an American in Sweden (or Europe in general) is that they’re talking much louder than everyone else. If you ever go to Europe to a place with a lot of American tourists you should try and see how many you can spot by volume alone

This is not a meme either in the slightest lol. Outside my window there's a bus stop and across the street is the local university. There's always a number of people waiting for the bus during the semester. And they're always standing far apart from each other just like this haha.
You can easily spot the foreign exchange students cause they don't give a fuck and stand wherever.

Being an American, I know you'd hate me. I'd get close up and start small talk. Immediately I now see how annoying that could be in Sweden. Perfectly normal here though

First time in America a stranger started to talk to me when I was taking a walk along the beach. All I did was keep my cool while internally being certain I was at best being pick-pocketted and at worst about to get robbed.🤣

I spent 6 months in California as a FES. A dude once sat down next to me at the bus stop and started talking to me. Took me a few moments before I realised what was going on lmao. But it was kinda nice honestly. Always said hey to each other and asked how it's going every time we walked past each other after that.

In Sweden "small talk" is referred to as "cold talk" or "dead talk" both Sweden and Finland refrain from doing it.

If I ever find myself in Sweden, I won't annoy you guys with cold talk haha

Also think about your volume when you speak, because you'll always be able to spot the American in Sweden only by the volume!
