As an American-Brit who has been living in Sweden for a couple of years, I've always found it interesting that pretty much everyone I know here can be found at their home address simply by googling their name and clicking on hitta.se. When I show this to my British or American friends, they're always shocked, and I find myself explaining that "Swedes have a very different, more trusting, relationship with their government than Brits or Americans."
Personally, I've never had a problem arise from this, and neither has anyone I know here, but I've been here less than for two years. I love it here and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life (that is, if you'll have me! Soon time to renew my visa!)
But I find myself wondering: Has anyone here, or anyone you know, ever had a problem arise from their address being listed publicly? Strange people turning up at your door, weird post or packages, or something worse?

Whenever I’ve worked abroad in a country with no hitta.se equivalent, my employer has known my DOB without telling my colleagues, at least…

Where I work we eat cake every time it's someones birthday.If it's a more "significant" birthday, like 20, 25, 30 etc, you even get a gift (from the employer). Turning 20/30/40 etc you get an "actual" gift like a giftcard or something similar, while turning 25/35 etc you get flowers.
I also don't quite understand how it's relevant. Are people from your work actively going on hitta.se to find other peoples birthdays? Seems kind of strange to me

jqvhll5I can assure you that cake still happens without offentlighetsprincipen.
Most people are totally chill with others knowing their birthday, but for me it is kind of nice that there’s no easy way to look it up when the office cake enjoyer notices that I haven’t revealed it.

jqvaxiuDepends what kind of boss you have. I've had several bosses who celebrate all birthdays of "their people" with fika (cake or something similar).
