As an American-Brit who has been living in Sweden for a couple of years, I've always found it interesting that pretty much everyone I know here can be found at their home address simply by googling their name and clicking on hitta.se. When I show this to my British or American friends, they're always shocked, and I find myself explaining that "Swedes have a very different, more trusting, relationship with their government than Brits or Americans."

Personally, I've never had a problem arise from this, and neither has anyone I know here, but I've been here less than for two years. I love it here and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life (that is, if you'll have me! Soon time to renew my visa!)

But I find myself wondering: Has anyone here, or anyone you know, ever had a problem arise from their address being listed publicly? Strange people turning up at your door, weird post or packages, or something worse?

I had a problem lasting for years, my phone number was listed both under my name and a random girl hours away. I think the problem was because we had the same name, both first and last. I was a minor, she was an adult, and adult men who was out to sleep with her probably looked her up online, and ofc contacted me instead thinking i was her. I had horny adult men contacting me for years, REFUSING to believe i was a CHILD with no connection to this stranger whatsoever. Some of them wanted me to tell them where i live, or call them to confirm i was the wrong person.

When it first happened i was at a sleepover with some friends and it freaked us out. For some context to that freakout, we thought the text was actually meant for me. Im a trans man, who had socially transitioned already, used a new name and all, and of course i had had to endure some bullying due to this. We thought it was someone who was out to harm me or harass me for being trans, especially since they used my old name, and i was a very very shy and introverted kid so nobody who wasn't my close friend would have any reason to ever talk to me, neither in school or real life. So i was terrified thinking someone was stalking me and out to hurt me.

I contacted hitta.se about the phone number mix up, and i got no response and the number was still listed under both my name and this random girl years later so i just gave up.

Hitta.se is good in many ways, but definitely very very bad when it comes to children getting involved and getting an adults sexual harassments accidentally. Especially when the men are complete scum and don't immediately back off when they are informed they are speaking to a child due to a mix up
