Managed this rig up a homemade induction heater from a 10$ board off amazon +7$ cigarette plug terminal cable

Induction heater is for my dynavap, the commercial ones are quite expensive and I figured it would be a cheap and easy project to make one up

I made a quick YouTube video showing the IH off :)

How powerful is the board? i've always wanted to melt metal with an induction coil.

The board is rated for up to 12v10a so 120 watts. Its able to heat up the dynavap to combusting temps in about 10 seconds so I wouldn't doubt its able to melt thin wire in short order. For my purposes it's actually too powerful so either need to lower the turns in coil or add a potentiometer on to the circuit

Or get a housing for the unit and a glass slide for the inside of the coil. By the time you do that it will be pretty dialed in. Source: I’ve built a few

Do you have any good suggestions for what I can do for housing unit? Was thinking of getting a little wood cigar box from local smoke shop. Glass slide is a good idea. I actually do have it pretty dialed in now after a week of daily use took a bit of time and practice.

I’ve used this before: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0107WU67M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_N5VY96CYFB4BGN2J080Z

Make sure the measurements are large enough since I’m not sure this is the exact one.

Works on small things like a small nail but larger things just get really damn hot
