Slavery was abolished in the US in the year 1865

People in 1864: "Hey bro, you are aware of US Politics, right? You know that the US has always had slaves, right???"

Also one minor nitpick, slavery is alive and well in the US, it was never abolished. You guys will figure it out some day.

True, it's still very much practiced in US prisons. Should've specified "officially" ig.

Prison slavery is very official. It’s carved out as legal in the constitution, and it is pretty out in the open. The main thing is that we use a bunch of euphemisms to make the slavers and beneficiaries feel less bad about themselves, but they don’t hide it.
